I wrapped my arms around myself as I began to walk down the road alone. Derek’s house was just a block from here and I was sure that I would make it. It was only evening now and I had to admit that it had been a long day. This day was full of surprises and disappointments and to top it all off, I had lost the flash drive, my only hope was that it was either at home, In Jared’s apartment, at the hospital, or worse; somewhere in the alley. I shuddered at the thought. I couldn’t lose that flash drive. With my mother in the hospital and Jared acting like a total jerk, those were my only means of finding out anything. I continued to walk down the block, it was evening now and the mood seemed to settle fine in the sky, the street lights were already on since it was a weekend and I could vaguely see some boys playing soccer in a small make-shift park. I smiled at the thought of my high school days. Apart from being very passionate about painting, I was very fascinated by the idea of p
“I’m still calling you Mr. Disney.” I deadpanned as I rested on the wall. Mr. Disney furrowed his eyes at me, his long lashes and facial features were visible even in the dark and probably because for some reason I was putting effort to see someone. An amused smile suddenly crept unto his lips and his dimples showed, my cheeks burned and I looked away bashfully. “Alright, Miss hasty,” My ears seemed to perk up at that and a pout found its way to my lips, I tied my messy bun into a tighter one and stood up with my hands folded by my sides. “What did you just call me?” I wasn’t sure if I was annoyed or just frustrated with the situation and how good-looking this arrogant man was. But, how dare he call me names? “Oh so, it’s all fun and games till you’re the one being called names?” He mused. I scrunched up my nose in annoyance. “The name is Danielle, nothing more and nothing less” I spat as I glared at him. He brought hi
“So…” I trailed off absentmindedly, trying to find colorful words to express how I felt “You kidnapped me?” “Not exactly,” Mr. Disney said as he placed a cup of coffee in front of me and sat opposite me with another cup of coffee in his hands. I sighed. “So, then what is it? Cause if you want money, which I highly doubt… I’ve got none” I announced hysterically as I raised my hands in surrender “And- and if you are some sort of- of organ remover then please at least tell me how and where I am going to die, make sure to hit my head first because I do not want to be awake while you are cutting me open-” “Miss hasty-” “No, seriously I mean it,” I said as I licked my lips and stared into his beautiful blue eyes, his dark fringe fell right above his eyes and his pointed nose seemed to fit so perfectly on his face. “No, cause um, if- if I’m going to die then I at least have to know how? when? Why? Who’s going to d
Silence reigned for a while before Mr. Disney's voice rang through the room."This is one of your jokes right? Do you think this kind of manipulation would work on me?" He gritted out.Megan seemed unfazed as she threw what looked like a pregnancy test in his face. I furrowed my eyebrows at her, Somewhat impressed. She came with all the receipts. "Well guys, as much as I'd like to stay and listen to this beautiful exchange of words, I've got to go, I've got very important things to do" I informed them and began to walk towards the door."Are you sure?" I heard Mr. Disney ask. I rolled my eyes. "Not really, but I'm sure you have a lot more pressing matters" I glanced over at Megan "To deal with at this moment" I finished and stepped out.To the honest, his apartment was really beautiful. The walls were painted grey and the floors were tiled with marble, He seemed to be an artistic person because a few paintings hung on the walls, mostly paintings of scenery or nature. I ran my hands
I glanced between the two men, The one who handed me the blank cheque looked to be in his late forties, His hair was styled back and you could tell it had been dyed recently, A cigarette sat loosely at the side of his lips as he stared at me in expectation. I licked my lips and discreetly tapped my foot against the ground. I tried to gauge the situation because this sounded like some cliche part of a movie I watched a few months ago. Cause, let's face it, who randomly offers someone a blank cheque in exchange for working with them. It's either this man was filthy rich or just dumb. "Look, You don't have to make a decision right now." The man's voice sounded heavy but not demanding. There was something about this man that just felt so familiar. I was certain I had never seen this man before, but something about him was just so— "You can decide tomorrow and come to my company and tell us your decision," The man continued and handed me a file,
“Finally, you showed up” Rye spat at me the moment I walked through the hospital doors. It seemed she had just stopped pacing with the angle she was standing, barely facing me but also barely facing elsewhere. Her face had more color than I had remembered but her lips were pursed on a straight line usually they were curved downwards in disappointment.“I had things to take care off” I whispered.“You’ve always had things to...” Rye took a step towards me, her hills clicked on the ground and her eyes hardened “take care off.” She spat. Her eyes held so much emotion as she took another step forward and locked eyes with me “it’s almost as if I’m her daughter and you aren’t”“You might as well be,” I straightened my posture. “…because she has never treated me as her daughter”“that’s because you never earned it” Rye added immediately.I felt a flame ignite in me as I broke eye contact “Yeah,” I responded as a strand of my hair fell unto my face. “I could never earn it, neither her, or aff
“I always knew you were a bit insane but this…” My mother said as she narrowed her eyes at me “this is a lot, even for you.” “Don’t treat me like I am crazy, I knew about the arguments you had.” Alice visibly tensed at my words. “The yelling, the whispers all of the stares you gave each other. I knew something was wrong. Did you think you were that discreet with your affairs?” “All I can gather from this is that you were a nosy little brat.” She retorted and tried to walk away but I pulled her back, she spun around and glared at me. “Your party was his last chance to salvage it all…” I continued. “But then you murdered him,” I said in a pained tone. “How could you do that ALICE? He was your husband, the only man who had treated you like royalty, who had loved you… loved me! Yet you killed him! You took him away from us!” I vocalized. “I wasn’t the one who killed him okay!” She snapped and her eyes filled with tears. “I loved Derek to the moon and back,” she added “besides, didn’t y
I shut my eyes and licked my lips. The feeling of betrayal left a bland taste in my mouth and I could not help but wonder how many more secrets they had kept from me — from him. I needed to find out who killed my father and why? Alice claimed Rye saw him. Rye saw our father’s murderer and yet she did nothing? She was just a child though... What could she have done? When I was her age I was just trying to put myself together, Rye is doing so well in her life and she should not have to deal with all of this. Her father’s murderer and a manipulative mother. My heart ached. I still needed to speak to her though, I needed to know who killed our father and why my mother wants to protect that person. My whole life has been one mess after the other. All that I had no control over, this I do... I didn't have any control over my father’s death, back then I couldn’t do anything. Now I could. I dragged myself to my feet and increased my pace down the hall, glancing around for Rye. I knew she
