Nate gripped the steering until his knuckles were white. He had noticed that it was on days he had an emergency, there seemed to be traffic, how typical. He didn’t need to think further that Taylor had told one of her lies.

He sighed as he dialed Maria’s number for the umpteenth time. Ruby wasn’t answering calls. He sighed again as he overtook a vehicle, not minding that the driver was yelling at him.

It wasn’t the first time he had let her down, he imagined how lonely she had felt.

The part that upset him the most was that Mark whom he disliked was there for her. She was there for him during his father’s remembrance and stood by him throughout.

He wasn’t the type to cry but he felt tears sting his eyes. He wiped them immediately as he tried to focus on the road. Ruby deserved better, someone who was going to be there for her always.
