Chapter forty-three

Abbigail's POV 

Shawn and Melanie have been gone over an hour and Joyce was looking for Shawn to do her grandmother's birthday cake. I explain to Joyce what was going on and offer to go check on them and let Shawn know Joyce was looking for her. When I reach our room, it was quiet inside.

I quietly open the door and found them passed out in bed. I quietly close the door and head back down to the kitchen. Joyce looks up as I enter and tears fill her eyes when she didn't see Shawn with me.

"They're asleep," I say softly and she nods lightly. 

The tears in her eyes roll down her cheeks and says in a choked whisper, "I didn't know about my mother's condition until Shawn and Annie were born. I was ready to put Shawn up for adoption when my mother told me about it. It's also when she told me the truth about my other mother. She said that if I went through with the adoption she'd never speak to me again."
