Chapter 54

Everyone was looking at me and waiting for my reaction. I could feel them so worried about what I might feel seeing the dead body of the person so close to me. My legs were trembling in pain while my heartbeats pounding so fast inside my rib cage. I could feel my hands shaking and beads of sweat rolling down from my forehead as my eyes locked to the man lying down on the ground.

My legs suddenly weakened and with Jace's help, I didn't fall to the ground. He hugged me and I cried in his chest.

“Why is this happening to me, Jace? Why do I have to go through this?” I asked while bursting.

“I am sorry for your loss, Margaux,” he said, which made me bite my bottom lips. I wanted to stop from crying but seeing my favorite person on that f*cking ground made me cry so loud.

“It's my uncle Joe, Jace. I-I can't believe he died,” I said and Jace rubbed my back to calm me down.

“We found his body in the forest, Margaux. Uncle Joe was dead and he wasn't breathing when we found him.”
