"Good morning," her mother greeted her with a bright smile. "I was going to make another stack of pancakes for your father when you called. Would you like some?"

"You're welcome, Mom. Is there anything I can do to assist you?

"No, there's no need," they replied. "everything's ready."

"Where can I find Greta?" They frequently shared meals with her aunt and uncle.

"She has traveled into the town. "Brett accompanied her on the trip."

Gwen made a small nod before sitting down across from her father and reaching for the coffee kettle. It was business as usual for him, with his head buried in the paper, which was exactly what she wanted. When she was anxious about Phil's location, she was not in the mood for meaningless small talk at all. She was focused on finding him.

She took a drink of her coffee, which was exactly what she required to get her day going and get her thoughts organized; it was steaming hot, full-bodied, and pitch black.
