Chapter 45: Chris

I quickly retrieved my wallet, keys, and jacket and left my apartment. While walking aimlessly around the block for an hour, I carefully checked to see if I was being followed. I do not know who it is Lisa thinks is following me, but she's always reasonable, and if she says so, I will not doubt her words. I left my phone at home as instructed and kept an eye out for possible pursuers. When I was sure I was alone, I called a cab and got in quietly.

Three times I had been to Lisa's apartment, but she did not respond. Her phone was turned off. She never picks up just like that. If it had been a business appointment, she would have told me. I have known her for years, she's not the type to press the gas pedal without thinking. And why was Marc with her? I do not like the way he looks at her. I am a man; I know that look. He's married, for God's sake. I'll be damned if he's going to do anything with Lisa.
