CHRISTY:

“You're too full of yourself, you know that? Everette?”

His brows knitted.

“I'm telling the truth.”

“Your truth is not my truth.” Locking gazes with the waiter, I declared, “Please give me two beers. In cans.”

I need something to drink.

“Two glasses? You're not making yourself drunk, Christina. If you do I—”

“You don't stop me from doing what I want Everette. That's what I don't want from you. I never said I wanted to go home.”

Why does almost everyone want to control my life? Dang it. I also wanted to take control.

“Why are you doing this?”

“I want to celebrate our marriage.”

His eyes narrowed. “You never were happy about it.”

I grinned. “Bingo. You're sharp.”

“We can order whatever you want to drink if we are at the house. You don’t have to be here.”

I wanted to be here. This place was the only thing that made me forget that I was alone. That I had no company. Entering this crowded place felt like the problems had no power over me.

I smiled sadly and drank the contents
