Chapter 2: Suddenly

"Are you still dating this guy, Daisy?" Cindy asked as she walked into Daisy's vast bedroom one cool afternoon.

Daisy raised her head and rolled her eyes.

"Not today again Cindy," she said to her friend and the latter chuckled.

"Your dad does not even like him," Cindy went on.

"But mum is cool with him," Daisy responded immediately glaring at her friend.

Cindy bursted out laughing.

"That your mum is cool with him does not mean she likes him," she said.

"Cindy," Daisy called her warningly and the other shrugged.

"Alright alright, I'll say no more."

Following that, there was a brief silence between the two. While Cindy decided to get busy with her phone, Daisy exhaled and just stared ahead.

"Edward isn't bad. He has got talent. The only thing is his background and look just how things have improved," Daisy muttered softly and looked at her friend.

'They've been dating for six months now and she does not get why her friend still had issues with his background.

Cindy shook her head and then placed her hand over Daisy's.

"No, I don't even have a problem with you being with who you want. Just know what you're doing," Cindy said softly to her, and Daisy smiled.

"But once you notice things you don't like, opt-out. Don't force a relationship that's not making you happy huh."

"Edward actually is making me happy. I love him and he loves me so much," Daisy immediately said defending her boyfriend and Cindy nodded with a smile.

"Alright then," she exhaled. "But know I'm always here for you."

Hearing that, Daisy smiled warmly at her friend's hearty concern for her. She immediately drew closer to Cindy and the friends shared a brief hug.

Then they withdrew.

"How is your mum now, Daisy?" Cindy asked immediately they ended their hug.

Mrs Louis has not been well of late.

"My mum," Daisy sighed. "She is doing better now, though I haven't seen her this afternoon," Daisy replied.

"Oh…"

But just then, they suddenly heard the house worker scream loudly from outside.

The two looked at eachother in shock.

"What's that?" They chorused and immediately sprang to their feet and dashed out of the room, down the stairs to the general living room where the loud screaming was coming from.

"Mrs Louis! Mrs Louiiisssss.... oh my God somebody help..." The woman kept screaming and with every scream, Daisy felt her heart racing and slamming hard against her ribcage.

"Oh no... what's happened to Mum?" she panicked while shivering in fear.

"Muumm!" Daisy yelled and immediately fell on her knees to the floor, staring at her mum in horror.

Mrs Louis was lying lifelessly on the floor.

"What happened to her?" She yelled again.

Tears had pulled out of her eyes already, flooding down her face.

"She suddenly fell," the house worker trembled in reply.

"She was going to the entrance and suddenly fell."

"Help me! Help me carry her let's rush her to the hospital," Daisy cried.

Just like that, Mrs Louis was rushed to the hospital. Seeing it was an emergency case, they immediately wheeled her away.

Daisy paced the corridor with bloodshot eyes.

'How did this happen? Is this a dream?' she kept asking herself over and over again.

Now, she just could not wait for the doctors to come out and let them know what exactly happened to her mum!

"Oh God," Daisy suddenly burst into tears and started to cry.

Cindy, with teary eyes, pulled her friend into her arms.

"Trust me, your mum will be fine. Trust me," she consoled her.

"Where is mum?" They suddenly heard a teenage girl's voice from the entrance. Immediately Daisy turned to see her kid sister, running towards still in her High school uniform.

"What exactly happened? Why was Mum suddenly rushed to the hospital?" The young girl kept asking as she drew nearer to where they were with Daisy wrapped in Cindy's arms.

"Dad came to pick me up and told me Mum was rushed to the hospital. What happened Daisy?" The girl kept asking while looking at the two with panicked and moist eyes.

"Where's dad?" Daisy whispered as a tear slid down her eyes.

Seeing that, Violet stared at her sister in a daze. She could see it definitely was something serious and now she could feel herself getting really cold and chilly in fear.

A tear slid down her eyes too.

"Dad is coming," Violet whispered a reply and sniffed.

The father of the two girls appeared by the entrance and behind him was Edward, Daisy's boyfriend.

When Daisy raised her head and saw him, she almost burst into tears but refrained from doing so. Instead, she began to tremble.

Edward immediately rushed to her side and held her in his arms.

"What did the doctor say?" Mr Louis asked as his eyes left the closed doors of the emergency room to his first daughter standing with a tear-stricken face.

Even though the man seemed calm and collected, he was trembling within.

His wife, lover and mother to his kids was suddenly rushed to the hospital and is now lying in there in the emergency ward.

"I don't know Dad I don't know," Daisy cried out.

"They've been in there for more than thirty minutes, but no word from them yet. This has never happened before, I'm so scared Dad. I'm scared."

As she cried, her tears kept pouring out.

Now Violet was crying too, and as Edward tried to console his girlfriend, Cindy began to console Violet.

"I'm so sorry baby. I really am, but your mum will be fine. Believe me on this," Edward tried to soothe her.

It broke his heart seeing her in so much pain and suffering and all he could do was console her. If only he could carry all her pains.

But suddenly, there were flashing red and blue lights and then the long sound of an alarming siren signalling as the double doors of the emergency room burst open. While several nurses, doctors, and other medical staff, a lone hospital stretcher was pushed out of the emergency room and across, towards the doors to the operating room.

On the stretcher was her mum being flown away.

With this scene suddenly unfolding, Daisy froze and in fact, they were all shocked.

'What the hell is happening???'

"Wait. Why is Mum looking so pale? Is that mum?" Daisy Louis asked in shock as her pupils shrank.

"Argh.... what's happening??? Mummmmm?" She suddenly screamed loudly and fell to the floor.

Edward immediately fell on his knees, holding his wailing girlfriend, the scene was too heartbreaking to watch. And as he hugged her, she wept and trembled in his arms.

Mr Louis had run after the stretcher.

He needed to find out what exactly was wrong with his wife. Things were unfolding so fast and quickly, it only left him in shock and fear.

'Had they not woken up together on the same bed this morning? So what exactly is going on?'

Unfortunately, they were in for a bigger shocker.

it turned out Mrs Louis had breast cancer which strangely needed that they carry out an operation immediately, or they would lose her.

Mr Louis immediately had to sign for surgery for his wife so they could immediately follow up with therapy. And even as he signed, he could not hide the shock on his face. Unfortunately, he needed to save his wife.

Everything was happening way too fast that Daisy thought she would just faint.

While Mr Louis had left to speak with the doctors, Daisy was wallowing in anguish, while Violet leaned on one side against the wall, praying and crying her eyes out.

"Let's step outside for a while, babe" Edward said to his girlfriend and immediately began to assist her to her feet.

It'll be best if she just steps out from the hospital premises, at least for a while to cool herself.

"It's going to be fine, Daisy. Trust me. Your mum is strong and is definitely stronger than cancer," Cindy began soothing the sisters.

She looked really distressed too.

"Violet you should go out with Daisy and Edward," Cindy turned to Violet.

"I'll wait for your dad here. Just clear your head of all this. Everything will be fine," Cindy added and exhaled sadly.

Following that, Edward guided his girlfriend and the teenage girl away from the corridor towards the hospital entrance.

But then, a sharp cold gaze pierced their backs as they went away, revealing Cindy’s grave and murderous face.

Her eyes were extremely dark, and a deadly murderous aura emanated from her. She smirked coldly as she watched Edward guide the two ladies out and she sneered.

"You don't know anything yet!"

Just then, Cindy's phone rang.

She brought it out and, seeing the restricted number displayed on her screen, an evil smile plastered on her face.

As usual, Cindy picked up the call, placed it against her ear, and then stayed silent, waiting for the person at the other end of the call to speak. She wouldn’t be saying a word while the other end dished out her orders.

“It’s done,” a cold domineering voice spoke through the phone into her ear.

"Immediately after the surgery, Mrs Louis will have a cardiac arrest. I already arranged for your director to call you over to the movie set so you wouldn’t be there when it happens.”

Then the call dropped.

Cindy dropped her hand before staring at the blank screen of her phone with a cold smile. She could not help but smirk at how gullible and overly trusting Daisy was. And even though she doesn’t know who this enemy of Daisy she’s working for is, she does not care as long as she is making a fortune from this.

She never genuinely liked her friend anyway.

The day she had asked who this anonymous and mysterious lady was, the cold feminine voice had simply said… “I am the Lady from the Coasters.”

Afterwards, the mysterious lady had eerily warned, “If you want to keep your life, don’t ever ask who I am again.”

"Well now, I have to go tell them I urgently need to leave for the movie set to see the director," Cindy muttered to herself, all excited.

"Happy losing your mum Daisy Louis," she muttered mockingly.

"And then, it'll be your turn to die too. I don't know who this figure after you are, but I don't care as long as you fall and go down the drain forever."
