Chapter 28 Deceit

My eyes shone with yellow light, reflecting Lana was as agitated as me. After all, we both were the same.

This sudden surge of hatred overwhelmed me and my mind raced with dark and unsettling thoughts. The speculation that someone was preying on Daniel triggered a chilling suspicion deep within me, and before I could stop myself, I blurted out, "What if Lizzie had something to do with my mother's death, Xander?"

The words hung heavily in the air, the accusation like a poison spreading through my veins. The memory of my childhood, the time when my mother left Daniel to stay in another house, because of some fight, flooded my mind. Daniel's regular visits and the subsequent arrival of Lizzie had always cast a shadow of doubt over that period of my life.

Now I know what that fight was about. When Daniel begged my mother to come back. Another thing struck me like lightning. It was only after Lizzie’s arrival my mother lost her life because she became so weak, she couldn’t handle herself.
