32. The ritual

Third person’s POV

Owen sits on the ground, resting his back on the invisible barrier. Feeling lost and useless, he couldn’t go in with her. All he can think is what’s happening to his mate. Why did all that have to happen? Why was he paired with a wolf? Now he cannot concentrate on anything else, life has become empty without her.

Her smile brightens up his heart. His memory is stuck on the day he first set his eyes on her. Her look when she first saw him, her blue dress. He wanted everything to go back to how it was, when he would sneak into her room to watch her sleep. When he could just have her in his arms.

Everything about him changed the day he met her, he grew something he never had; humanity.

What will happen when that light is taken away from him?

Ruby’s father and mother walk past the barrier, ignoring him completely, he is too broken to even try to speak to them. He just lies flat on the filthy ground full of old leaves and twigs, algae and moss all over his bare hands
