CHAPTER 157: Just Pretend

I was rummaging through my drawer for something to match the new bikini I'd brought for this trip when my fingers brushed against the smooth, cool pearls of the necklace Rue had given me. It was a simple thing, but the most special piece of accessory I had. I picked up its shell pendant and stared at it again.

Rue had made it himself, each pearl and shell carefully chosen, strung together with a patience I didn't know he had. It was like proof of the care he put into everything that mattered to him. And somehow, that included me and my twins.

Holding it now, I couldn't help but smile. It perfectly complemented my royal blue bikini under my sheer cover-up.

"You ready?" Rue asked the moment I stepped out of my room.

He was already dressed in his summer outfit, sunglasses perched casually on his shirt.

"Yeah," I replied.

I noticed his eyes lingered on the necklace he had given me, and a small smile tugged at his lips. My heart raced and my cheeks flushed at the sight.
