( Next day) Sylvia's P. O. V I woke up very late the next day, my head pounding and my heart heavy. Running a hand through my messed up hair, I looked around and was met with silence. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I let out a shaky breath. I had thought it was all a bad dream and I would wake up and everything would be back to normal. But it's not, my mom really is sick. Breaking down again, I began crying, my face buried in my hands as the tears slipped out. But of course, crying never solved anything. Eventually I'll have to get out of bed and face the reality. I dragged myself out of the bed, trudging into the bathroom to wash off my tear stained face. I can't go to school today so I sent a text to both Patrick and Alex that I'll not be arriving. Peeling off my nightclothes from my body, I stepped into the shower and stayed there for long hours, just letting the water run down my body. A quick breakfast and I'll be going to the hospital....

Patrick's P. O. V I stared at Sylvia as she continued crying. Shuddering, I began talking. " What are we going to do now?" I asked gently and Sylvia looked up at me, her eyes watering. " I don't know...." She forced out, her voice shaking. " I don't know anyone else. And even if I try to use an outside donor how am I so sure we'll find him on time? " She asked and broke down further, sobbing loudly. I glanced at Alex, swallowing. " What do we do now?" I asked quietly. " I don't know... " He whispered back.... Alex's P. O. V When I arrived home, I met my mom already waiting for me. I sighed and greeted her, hugging her tightly. " What happened? Why do you look so sullen?" She asked and I breathed out, running a hand through my hair. " It's Sylvia's mom..." I began. " What about her? " " Well... Sylvia submitted herself for a test and she wasn't a match. Now we don't know where we would find a match for her mom before time runs out. "

Sylvia's P. O. V " He is the match?" I asked the doctor and he nodded, still talking. " Now I suggest we get started with the preparations...." I cut him off, still staring at Alex. " Why?" I forced out, my voice breaking. " Why does it have to be you? " The doctor seemed confused." Is there a problem Miss Torres?" He asked and I glanced at him. " Of course! There is a problem!" " Come on Sylvia... I'm just donating. It's nothing serious." " Of course it is... " I cried out, tears slipping out my eyes." You're the one donating. It's you!" Sylvia's P. O. V I stared at Patrick, my mouth hanging open. " What?" I muttered. He sighed and continued, his gaze unflickered. " Yes... Let's break up." He repeated, his voice stronger. I stuttered, my heart racing. " Why?... Did I do something wrong?" " Nothing, it's just not the right time for this. " " What do you mean? " I asked and he held my hands, caressing it softly. " Listen to me carefully Sylvia. We're too young to be worrying ourselves about things like this. Your mom's sick and she needs all the help she can get. Alex is the one who can offer that help. Sylvia's P. O. V I woke up with a start cleaning the next day, checking my clock for the time, I sprang out of bed and rushed towards the bathroom, hurrying through my morning routine. Today I'll be getting update on my mom and I can't wait. Heading downstairs, I made myself a quick breakfast and walked out of the house, boarding a cab to the hospital. I arrived there soon after and walked straight to my mom's ward where I met a doctor checking on her. Staying outside, I watched them through the window. Eventually the doctor was through with her and he came out, spotting me. " Good morning doc..." I greeted, feeling nervous. " Good morning Miss Torres. I see you're here early. " He said and I nodded, still glancing at my mom. " How is she? " I asked quietly and watched as he took in a deep breath. " Well...." He began and I held my breath. One more bad news and I'll... (One week later) Sylvia's P. O. V My mom kept getting better. The new bone marrow that was donated kept producing healthy cells that pushed the leukemic ones out and she kept getting stronger. I checked up on her occasionally while I continued school, trying to catch up with the things I lost while she was sick. Fortunately for me, the break up between me and Patrick smoothed out. Now we are more friends than strangers. Even though I'm sad we had to end things, I'm glad things didn't get so bad between us. It was lunch time so I was sitted at the school's cafeteria, quietly having mine when I heard footsteps approaching. I looked up and saw that it was Alex. I swallowed and managed a small smile " Hey..." He called out, " mind if I join you?" He asked and I shook my head. Nodding thanks, he sat in front of me and we ate in silence. (A few days later: Saturday; evening) Tying up the balloons in the living room, I tried to finish the decorations as quickly as I could. My mom would be arriving home in a few moments and we were preparing a surprise party for her. Helping me out was Patrick, who was outside hanging a banner at the doorstep. I heard him descend from the stool he was using and soon enough, he was peeking through the door. " I'm through..." He announced and I smiled. Standing back, I stared at the decorations.
