The waiter

The day faded slowly as the morning became an afternoon and the dull light met Carmen curled up in a ball while laying on Liam's kitchen floor.

Her skin was mark with her tear stains, and the spot where she laid had countless drops of salty liquid on the tile.

Carmen couldn't tell how long she had been sobbing for, but her eyes felt puffy from crying, she was dehydrated, and her entire body was sore. 

No one should be able to cry that hard, and yet she couldn't bring herself to stop as she and Liam's conversation replayed in her head.

After a while, her lousy ringtone finally forced Carmen to dry her tears and pulled herself together. Then she answered the call.

“Mo...mom, what's up?” Carmen mumbled, striving to keep her voice stable as possible.
