Chapter 39

Adrienne arrived at his house, clad in an oversized hoodie and joggers. A pallor had settled on her face, her eyes weighed down with exhaustion. Wearing slides, with little care for her appearance, she entered into the room, her focus solely on their usual spot.

To her relief, he wasn't present upon entering. A sigh of temporary reprieve escaped her lips. However, her respite proved short-lived as he emerged from the bathroom, draped in a towel firmly secured around his waist.

Startled by Adrienne's presence, his brows furrowed in displeasure as he surveyed her disheveled appearance. "Why are you here before our designated meeting time? And why do you look so disheveled?" His words were sharp and biting.

Adrienne's sense of relief dissipated, replaced by a growing fear. She knew all too well how he acted when angered. "I... I..." Her voice trailed off, words falling flat.
