6: Gold-digging Wife

A V E L I N A

I shamefully arranged my nightgown and tied a robe over it as I stood up from the bed. I wore my slippers and walking out of the hotel room, walking towards where Lorenzo went to.

The hotel was still bubbly even at 1am, I had noticed. I was thankful for that as no one paid any attention to the girl who had tears in her eyes and a red cheek.

I got into the elevator and pressed the button that led to the roof.

I knew I'd find him there.

But, what I wasn't expecting was to get the biggest shock of my life. There he was, standing on the rooftop with a slender lady in his arms. She had her arms around his neck and her tongue shoved down his throat.

I couldn't breathe. I was rooted to the ground. I couldn't move and I couldn't stop watching. I wasn't shocked that he was cheating. I was shocked that I felt my heart break into a million pieces.

And, why did I feel this way? Why was I so shocked and upset?

I didn't care about him.

I shouldn't.

"Oh, fuck! That was good. I missed you so much, Enzo baby." She moaned, kissing his jaw.

"Mhmm. Fuck, yeah. I missed you too, babe."

"What are you going to do about your grandmother then? She deceived you and lured you to get married to that gold-digging bitch. She's going to take your money and run. We have to do something." She said, running her finger over his lips.

He looked away and pulled her close to him. "Don't worry about her, she won't be a problem for long." He said, looking at her with adoration.

I felt my blood boil and I wanted nothing more than to push her off the fucking rooftop.

"But, why, baby? We were so perfect together and now you're marrying that whore?" She asked, her voice cracking.

"Because, baby, she's the solution to our problems. She'll be useful for a while."

"And, then?"

"And, then, I'll get rid of her. You know I feel nothing for her. She isn't even my type. The only reason I'm going ahead with this is because of my grandmother. After I'm done with her, I'm all yours."

"Promise?"

"Of course, baby." He kissed her lips and pulled her close.

They stood there for a few moments before he pushed her off and walked back into the hotel.

I quickly moved out of his way, pressing myself against the wall. I waited for him to walk past me before I breathed out a sigh of relief.

He didn't see me.

"Who the fuck are you and what are you doing here?" I heard the woman ask and I slowly turned around, facing her.

She had her brows raised, a cigarette dangling between her lips.

I didn't say anything, too shocked to form any words.

"Hello? Anyone in there?" She asked, waving a hand in front of my face.

"Excuse me." I said sternly and started walking out the door when her voice stopped me.

This time it was filled with disdain and venom, "Wait a minute. I've seen you somewhere. Aren't you that whore Lorenzo married? Why are you here?"

"I'm not a whore. And, why do you care?"

She laughed and walked over to me, getting into my face. "Do you think you're something special, huh? Just because you're his wife. You're a joke."

I pushed her away from me, "Stay away from me."

She glared at me, "Or, what? Are you going to tell your husband? Please. What are you? A little girl? Get a grip, sweetheart."

"Just...leave me alone."

She grabbed my arm, "I can't believe a whore like you married my Enzo. Do you really think he'll love you?"

"He doesn't love you, either. Don't forget that." I shot back.

Her nostrils flared, and she pushed me back, making me stumble and almost lose my footing.

I regained my balance, feeling my anger grow. I walked over to her and slapped her across the face. She cupped her cheek in shock, as I pointed an accusing finger at her face, fuming. This was a side of me I rarely let anyone get to see. I dealt with terrible anger issues as a teen and I'm only able to manage it until it's triggered.

"Don't. Ever. Touch. Me." I growled. "I don't care whatever you have going on with Lorenzo. You can have him for all I care. I never wanted this union either. I did it because of the love and respect I have for his grandmother. Of course you wouldn't understand the length one would go for someone they love, you look like you need love yourself. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to my room and enjoy my first night of being a married woman. So, please, go back to your room and enjoy the rest of the night."

As I turned my back, I saw Lorenzo standing there, a blank expression on his face.

I looked at him, and then back at her. She had her head down, unable to meet my gaze.

I glared at him and pushed past him. "You're both pathetic."

I walked into our hotel room, slamming the door behind me. I felt tired, and drained.

I wanted nothing more than to fall into bed and forget this horrible night ever happened.

Why the hell was I affected? He was a cheater.

I didn't want him, anyway.

So, why did seeing him kiss another woman break my heart?

My boyfriend, Benny. I felt a wave of nervousness pass through me. He doesn't know that I was married. I never told him. Neither did I tell my family.

I had intentionally switched off my phone to escape reality until tomorrow.

I'll have to talk to him tomorrow.

I sighed, rubbing a hand over my face.

This was going to be a long night.

I was exhausted, and my eyelids were starting to get heavy.

I removed the robe and threw it over the chair before climbing into bed.

I pulled the duvet over me and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
