CHAPTER TWENTY- FOUR

We were back in the car, and I was so full from the meal. As I settled into my seat, a call came through, and I wondered who it was for.

Xavier pulled out his phone from his pocket. “Hello,” he said, his voice calm but authoritative. “Yes, please bring in dresses that are from size 12, and they should be done before I get there,” he said in a serious tone, leaving no room for argument.

I wondered who the dresses were for. He ended the call, and once again, the car was silent.

“What’s your favorite food?” Xavier’s mom asked me suddenly, breaking the silence. I was shocked because, throughout the car ride, she hadn’t said anything to me.

“Are you talking to me?” I asked, wanting to make sure that I was the one she was addressing. Throughout the whole car ride, we had all minded our own business, and I had barely interacted with her. From the little short trip, I had noticed that she seemed like a nice person, but this was still unexpected.
