CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE: A KISS, A KISS, AND A HEARTBREAK

She heard it from a distance.

Like the shattering of glass, and then the twisting of metal.

And then the dark cloud over her lifted before a bright light came over her.

“Alisa?” She heard a voice.

“Mum, Dad? Are you here?” She answered despite all the confusion.

She felt a finger graze her cheek, then move slowly to her eyes, wiping her tears. She blinked, and there was another cloud over her but this one seemed like it was here to protect her.

“Alisa?” She heard her name again.

The voice sounded familiar, and she blinked repeatedly for her vision to clear, and when it finally cleared, she could not believe it was who she thought it was.

Why was Elliott Hansen here?

He picked her up and held her in his arms, taking her gently out of the car. She looked around for the taxi driver and he lay still on the floor, blood oozing out of his head.

“Thank you, Elliott.” She whispered amidst the haze and the ringing in her ears as she faded into oblivion.
