Chapter 66

Farren's Point of View

The fluorescent lights burned my eyes as I slowly cracked them open. But it was the least of my worries. A solid pounding settled into the side of my skull. Aching. Crackling. I sucked in a cool breath through dried lips and was met with a stale and sterile taste.

Beeping came from my left. Voices from my right. I rolled my eyes to the side. Took in the white-washed room. Everything was pristine in here. Not a speck of dust on any of the surfaces. A curtain hung from the roof a meter or so away.

Cold sweat broke out on my forehead. This was a hospital room.

The pounding in my skull increased. I wiggled in the hard bed beneath me. Felt a sting in my side. Hissing, I stopped moving. The beeping intensified beside me. I could feel my heart claw at my ribs. Begged to be free of the confines of my chest. This was a nightmare waiting to happen.
