Chapter 40: Shall We Check?

Phillip handed the car keys to James after they had arrived at his villa and left after taking the suitcase to the front door of the house. James placed his hand on Laura’s lower back and paused when he was about to open the front door.

“What is it?” Laura asked him.

“I’ve never brought anyone here,” James said before opening the door for her. The lights at the entrance lit up as they were activated by motion sensors. James turned on the rest of the light switches and his house was lit up brightly, exposing the generous space of the living area.

Laura took off her shoes and walked into the place while curiously looking around. The villa could be described as any bachelor’s dream house, with minimalist but comfortable furniture.

There was no clutter anywhere and everything was arranged in the cabinets in the kitchen, leaving the countertops practically empty.

“Put these on,” James said to Laura and placed a newly opened pair of slippers in front of her.
