Talia's pov. 

Tick'tock Tick'tock

The inky sound of the clock hover the tension between the two of us. 

The way his fingers touched the chess piece was like a bubble of catastrophe—it's calm yet disastrous. 

"Check." He tapped his index finger on the table while humming. The tone was peaceful yet it's like a horrific sound passing through my ears. 

I moved the horse on the c7 square and twitched when I saw how he grinned. 

"Why did you sacrificed your horse instead of moving your King?" he asked. 

His smile grew more predatory, as my lips moved sideways and a twisted grin appeared. 

"A sacrificial is the best advantage. You need to take a risk and gamble your pieces to create an advantage," I answered. 

I leaned forward, looking utterly cold. I clutched my fingers and fought the urge to smack his face when I saw how he grinned playfully.
