CHAPTER 17

Wesley ended up getting a blanket out of the truck and he laid it on the bed of the truck, still holding hands and we laid down and watched the sun set over the city while we were still parked next to the river.

It was getting really cold as the sun was going down, but Wesley stayed pretty close and made sure that I was warm. I don’t think he wanted to leave.

“Dad didn’t even tell me what happened back then. I listened to him and my mother talking in the other room.” Wesley said.

“I guess they don’t think that we can handle it. Parents suck sometimes. My dad only told me the very basics.” I said. And Wesley scoffed.

“You don’t need to tell me. I wish they would realize that we aren’t as stupid as they think we are.” Wesley said.

“Well, as long as we keep eavesdropping on them then we might get the whole story.” I said and Wesley started laughing.

“That sounds like a plan.” He said.

“You know, I think this is my favorite spot in the whole city.” I said, looking up at the
