Standing outside of the massive high school in the middle of a city was not something I ever expected I would be doing in my life. I had been living in the woods, in a small log cabin with my mother, who homeschooled me, until recently. When my father showed up and declared that I was coming to live with him, I moved to a big city.
As I looked around at everyone going in and out of the high school, I looked down at myself and knew that I didn’t belong.
All the girls were dressed to the nines, with beautiful clothes, a lot of makeup and high heels. Like they were about to attend a fashion show or something like that. But I looked down at myself wearing sweatpants, sneakers, a baggy shirt and a hoodie over the top of it.
I noticed that everyone was staring at me as I was staring at the building and I decided to bite the bullet and go inside. I knew that I couldn’t put it off for much longer and I knew that they were going to be staring at me, whether I was inside or outside. So I walked up the stairs and into the building.
I had to find my way to the office and all of the kids were standing near their lockers, they were staring and some were whispering and giggling while they were looking at me.
The intense smell of the high school was insane on my senses the second I walked in.
I had lived virtually alone for most of my life and now I was being thrust into a high school that was full of werewolves and all of their scents along with it.
I finally got to the office and the lady behind the desk was a plumish woman in her 40’s and she looked over at me while I was standing there.
“Can I help you?” She asked, coming over to the counter. Almost acting like it was too much of an effort for her to walk four feet to where I was.
“My name is Ava Johnson. I was told to come to the office when I first got here.” I said.
“Oh right. You’re the Alpha’s daughter.” She said, changing her attitude immediately.
“That’s right.” I said. So she pulled up a file that was right in front of her and handed it to me.
“Your class schedule, locker number and combination are in there and there is a list of extracurricular activities in there if you chose to get involved in any of that sort of stuff.” She said.
“Thank you.” I said, taking the folder with me out into the hall.
I looked around until I found my locker and then I used the combination to open it and I started putting all of my books in it.
I could hear snickering behind my back so I looked behind me and there was a group of girls standing there staring at me and making no attempt at all to let me know that they were laughing at me.
They were soon joined by some guys, who joined in with them but I just turned around and tried to ignore them.
I looked at my first class and I needed to look at the map to see where the classroom was. But I made sure that I stayed in my locker while I was looking at it so no one saw me.
But once I figured it out, it was easy for me to find my way.
I started walking towards my first class with my books in hand and I wasn’t really paying attention to many people around me because I was trying to ignore all of the staring and giggling from everyone who looked so much better dressed than me.
There was no secret that I was the odd one out of the entire school, and honestly, I didn’t even know how many students were at this school and if they all belonged to the same wolfpack.
I felt my books fall out of my hands and I turned to see a girl standing in front of me.
“Oops. It slipped.” She said, and she walked away with a couple of girls walking behind her giggling.
“That’s one.” I muttered to myself.
I bent over to pick up my books and just as I was getting to my feet again I felt someone throw their shoulder into me and I fell into the lockers on the side wall.
This time it was a guy and some of his friends that did it.
“That’s two.” I muttered to myself.
When I finally got to class I saw people standing around their desks everywhere and I slowly walked in and found one desk, right at the back of the room that didn’t have anyone near it.
So I walked to that desk slowly and I recognised one of the boys that was standing over the other side of the room. But as soon as he saw me, he rolled his eyes and looked away.
“Leo! Is that your sister?” One of the guys asked, looking at me.
“Oh my god. You’re related to that thing? How the hell did that happen?” A girl asked.
“Does that mean we can start expecting you to look like that soon enough?” The same girl asked.
“Damn Leo. And I thought you were actually worth my time.” Another girl said, while others started laughing.
Leo then smashed his hands on his desk with a growl.
“She’s not my fucking sister.” He roared, shutting everyone in the classroom up.
But I just looked over at him and he was looking pissed. Like he was ready to kill me or something, just for being here.
“Why the hell would I be related to trash like that?” Leo asked.
“Alright man. Calm down. We were kidding. We know that it’s not your fault that you have to live in the same house as that thing.” His friend said, patting him on the back.
The teacher then came into the room and everyone sat down and shut up, for the time being.
When class was over, he asked me to stay back.
He said that he knew I had been homeschooled until now and he needed to make sure that I was able to keep up with the rest of the class. So he gave me extra homework to do. To catch up with what the class had already done this semester.
When I walked out of class I saw a girl standing out there and I recognised her as one of the girls that was giggling along with the one that knocked the books out of my hand earlier.
I tried to walk past her but she stood in my way.
“Hi. I’m Sarah.” She said.
“Okay.” I said.
“I wanted to apologize for the way that I treated you this morning and for what Skylar did to you. She didn’t have a right to do that.” She said.
“Okay.” I said again.
“Hey, why don’t we have lunch together. I can let you know who to hang with and who to steer clear of.”
“Is Skylar one of them that I should steer clear of?” I asked.
“She can be a really nice person, when she wants to be.” Sarah said. “What do you say?” She asked, looking at me with a little hope in her eyes.
“Alright. I guess so.” I said, giving in.
So at lunch time Sarah had found me and she took me to the cafeteria and we sat at a table, just the two of us and I saw Skylar sitting at another table with the rest of her friends.
Sarah said that she was just going to go and get something to eat and asked if I wanted something. But I said no.
So she walked over to where the lunch lady was and I saw her looking back towards Skylar and then at me.
I was keeping my head down, with my hoodie pulled down over my hair and face while I was fiddling with a scratching that had been etched on the table when suddenly I felt something wet fall on my head and down the back of my jumper.
I turned around and saw Skylar standing there laughing with her friends, and Sarah. I guess this was all a set up.
The whole cafeteria erupted into laughter, at my expense.
“And that’s three.” I said as I stood up.
I took my hoodie off to reveal my ass length snow blonde hair and my piercing blue eyes that were now changing color as my wolf was moving forward as we joined as one and Skylar gasped and took a step back.
“Big fucking mistake.” I growled.
“Big fucking mistake.” I growled, glaring at Skylar and her friends behind her. I reached forward and grabbed Skylar by the hair, pulling her head down as I kneed her in the face and then I elbowed her on her back and she fell to the ground. I spun around and kicked Sarah in the stomach and she flew through the air and straight through the floor to ceiling wall and landed on the pavement outside. I then looked at the third girl that was standing there, eyes really wide with shock and fear and I punched her in the throat and while she was gasping for air I kneed her in the stomach and as she bent over I punched her across the face and she fell to the ground as well. I turned around to look at everyone else that was staring at me in shock around the cafeteria and I stood over Skylar who was still on the ground and I walked towards the door of the cafeteria. I looked over to see that same guy who pushed me into the locker standing at a table with his friends, all of them looking
“Leo. What the fuck are you doing? Get out of here.” I yelled. “You are my fucking problem.” He yelled. “What are you talking about?” I asked. “The Alpha promised to leave this pack to me. That was before you came back into the picture. You’re his true heir and now you’re going to take it away from me.” He said, stumbling closer to me. “You are fucking drunk. Get out of my room before I kick your ass like I did to Skylar.” I yelled. “You are a gold digging bitch. You didn’t want anything to do with your father until now. Because as soon as you turn 18, you will be old enough to take over the pack.”He walked closer to the shower but I just stood there, staring him in the eyes to let him know that I was not intimidated by him. “You just showed up out of nowhere and embarrassed the hell out of me at school for what? Just to ruin my fucking life?” He growled. “No. I will be old enough to find my mate at 18. Who the fuck wants to lead a pack at the age of 18? You’re delusional.”
When I finally climbed into bed that night I read a book for a little while before I finally fell asleep. When I woke up the following morning I dragged myself out of bed and I headed downstairs to get a coffee that I made myself, and I sat in the kitchen drinking it. Even when the breakfast staff came in to start cooking. They weren't used to seeing a member of the family there, but they were going to get used to the fact that I'm not like the others. When breakfast was served I ate in silence while Sandra made small talk with dad and Leo, deliberately not talking to me which I was completely fine with. And as soon as I was finished eating, I got up and went back to my room. I got changed into baggy torn jeans, a loose fitting t-shirt and a hoodie with sand shoes on. I put all of the books in my bag and I headed downstairs and straight out the front door without saying goodbye to anyone. I left the property and started walking towards the city. I always left early because it wa
I glanced up at everyone to see if there was anyone staring at me or playing with their phones. And a lot of them had their phones out, but they didn’t look suspicious to me. Not like they were sending cryptic messages to me or anything like that. But I wouldn’t know for sure who was sending me these messages. They could be pretending that it’s not them. I wasn’t sure if it was too much of a coincidence or not and I made sure that I kept my eye on everyone that was around me. My mother had always taught me to watch my surroundings. I didn’t think I would have to do so much of it here. But I guess I needed to watch my back more than ever now. By lunch time that day I went to my locker and I put my books in it and then I headed out the front of the school. I definitely wasn’t going to the cafeteria and I wanted to go somewhere where I knew that I could be alone. And I sat at the table out the front of the school. But I wasn’t alone for long. “Ava.” Someone said from beside me.
I started looking around frantically and I heard something in the distance. Footsteps that were slowly approaching us. I got a glimpse of the gun in a man’s hand who was walking directly towards us and I started to panic. My first thought was to run off and save myself, but then I saw Wesley laying there unconscious and I knew that I couldn’t leave him. I managed to pick him up and get him onto my back very awkwardly and I started trying to run through the woods. It was harder than I thought it would be with Wesley on my back and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to make it back to our clothes and the car like this. So I decided that I needed to find somewhere to hide. I started running in different directions and even backtrailed a couple of times, running around in circles so that man couldn’t catch up with us. I came to a rock formation and I got Wesley up on the rocks while I covered my tracks and got back to the rocks without leaving tracks in the dirt. A trick that my moth
When I arrived at school the next day, I saw that everything was back to normal. Well, my kind of normal. Everyone was staring at me and whispering about me while they were covering their mouths and whispering to their friends so that I couldn’t hear them. I just rolled my eyes, thinking that maybe they had learnt their lesson about pissing me off, but I guess not. Or I guess they just had something else to talk about today. It seemed to be going around though. I saw Leo walking past with a few of his friends, who seemed to have grown in size overnight. He didn’t have that many friends yesterday. But he was showing them something on his phone and when he saw me he made sure that they hushed their voices. I knew that he was behind this. He was doing something to make everyone hate me again. And I wish I could say that I was surprised. But I’m really not. I did think that people were going to start leaving me alone though. So, I put my things in my locker and I walked off towards the ba
As soon as the teacher arrived Wesley let go of me and he winked at me before he walked off to his class and I made it to my desk. During the whole lesson I was sitting there with my hood up, not looking around, although I could feel people looking at me. But I was too preoccupied by Wesley and that kiss and how he just grabbed me like that. The feel of his warm breath on my face and how soft his lips were. How gentle he was, considering how big he was, I wouldn’t have thought that werewolves would be that gentle while kissing someone. It took my breath away and now I couldn’t think of anything but what happened. I didn’t really want my first kiss to be like that, but I can’t say that I’m really disappointed. I really liked it, but it wasn’t how I imagined my first kiss would go. I tried to get it out of my head and I looked up towards the teacher and he was rattling on with stuff that just sounded like a blur to me. I couldn’t make out anything that he was saying at the momen
I ran out the side gate of the house and I kept running until I was far enough away from the house that I knew they weren’t following me. But even then, I didn’t slow my pace. I kept running at a steady speed until I hit the highway and I was running along the highway. It was getting later in the afternoon and the chill in the air was getting more prominent. But I still had my big hoodie on and my boots. Plus I was running, so I wasn’t too concerned about the weather. The cold didn’t bother werewolves as much as it bothered humans. We had a hotter body temperature to them on any given day. So we were pretty fortunate like that. But when I decided that it was going to take me hours to get back to the cabin like this, I ran until I got to the woods. I got deep enough into the woods and I took my clothes off and I put my phone and wallet in my pocket and I shifted into my wolf. I then picked my clothes up in my mouth and I kept running through the woods. A lot faster than I would
