The next few days seemed to go by super-fast but, at the same time, went by so slowly, if that was even possible. I spent my time, as I always did, in the yard working out. The day before my release, I was pulled from the cell block after the morning count and taken to the warden's office. He was an ugly man. He had a ring on his ring finger indicating he was married, but I didn't see any woman that could possibly love him. He had a huge nose that had what looked like craters spotted all over it. His eyebrows were thick and bushy. Maybe they wouldn't have been so noticeable if they weren't black. He kept his hair in a crew cut as though he was in the military or something. He also wore a suit as though he didn't work in a prison and was important. And for a heavy guy, he walked around as though he was the most attractive-looking guy there ever was.
