Chapter 176

Lance POV

From beyond, my nose picked up J’s unmistakable scent, my heart pounding with a mix of hope and dread. I picked up my pace, but came to a halt when my nose picked up another scent, mine. Wary once more, I picked up my pace, quieter this time, and looked towards the source. Beyond the trees was what looked like a cave. I had no doubt J was there. I glanced behind him and beside the cave, but I couldn’t pick up any scent apart from ours.

This wasn’t going to work. J could be at risk currently while I was waiting on a ghost. I left the comfort of the trees and dashed into the cave. There she was, lying motionless on the ground…

“J?” I shouted, my heart dropping when she didn’t respond.

I rushed to her side and growled in fury when I noticed that her hands and legs had been tied to the stone. Desperately, I placed a finger under her nose and on her wrist and finally breathed again when I noticed that she was still breathing. Her pulse also sounded strong. Just unconscious then
