8-New Mate?

Sabrina’s POV

“So, I can’t fire you because you have skills that pay bills, but I can write you up for lack of standard work,” I tell her. “And once the boss is done playing with you, understand you will be fired.”

“Really, because Stacey is still her,” Evelyn scoffs.

“Stacey works her ass off and keeps her shit up to standards. You can’t be bothered to try. So once your golden pussy has run out of lives, you will be fired,” I tell her.

Crystal is standing behind me with a steel like expression.

Evelyn rolls her eyes. “Whatever, once I marry my Teddy, you are fired.”

I scoff, “You think he is going to marry you?”

“Evelyn, you are delusional,” Crystal says, behind me.

“I gave him my virginity. Even if we aren’t mates, he owes me now. I will make it to that master bedroom, wait and see,” Evelyn seems to snap.

I laugh, “You gave your virginity to a man who sleeps around publicly and talk about being ‘mates’ aren’t mates nothing more than friends?”

“Oh, and I’m the delusional one?” Evelyn asks. “Stupid human.”

I roll my eyes. “We are all humans.”

I feel Crystal giving her a threatening look behind me.

Evelyn looks like she is about to say something, but I cut her off.

“Look, you can bang whomever. I don’t care. Have your little dream where you marry a rich man, and he covers you in gifts. I lived that life. All you get is empty house and a cold bed. You are his plaything. Own that. I can’t fire you, but I don’t have to like you. Get out of my office and if I have to go behind you again, I will march myself the Mr. Sol’s office personally and show him pictures of the disgraceful way you treat his business. Hell, I might flash my boobs and steal him from you while I’m at it. He doesn’t seem to have very high standards to begin with. He might enjoy a flirtation with a real woman,” I smirk back. “Get back to work.”

“Trust me, you aren’t half of what he needs. I am the whole package,” Evelyn wants to go, we can go. “Besides, I wasn’t dumb enough to have a baby.”

And the gloves come off as I stand up. Crystal shifts behind me as if to give me space.

“Listen here and listen good. You want to hit with me, bring your best. But invoke my child and I will not hesitate to resign, beat the ever-loving shit out of you, dump your corpses in a remote ally, clean up and join the search party. Hell, I might cry on tv about what a loving girl you were and how tragic it is you are gone. This is one mama bear you don’t want to poke. So, I suggest you get back to work and get the work done correctly. Am I clear?”

Evelyn tries to maintain eye contact but turns her head. “Yes, Ma’am.”

“Good, now get out,” I tell her with a force I didn’t know I had.

She leaves and Crystal starts to laugh. I fall back into my chair, turning to look at her.

“You are not the mousey little girl I pulled from that house three years ago,” Crystal smiles. “I bet even Sedit would have a hard time recognizing you.”

I laugh too. “It took a lot to get here. I never want to be that afraid again. I won’t allow Sophie to ever see me like that.”

Crystal smiles and nods. “You know, when I was growing up there was a lady like you. Luna Sol, Ted’s mom. She was abused but when she met her husband, he fixed her from the inside out. It’s amazing what love can bring to your life.”

“You have a husband, are you happy?” I ask.

“Oh girl, he is my everything. The perfect piece to my puzzle. I can’t do life if Carl isn’t a part of it. I love him, and by extension, I love my daughter, Daisy,” She smiles. “I can’t believe such a girl is my daughter.”

“They are special, daughters,” I tell her, and we nod at each other. “Okay, I’m off to meet my brother and Sophie at the park. Have a good Saturday.”

“You too, see you Monday,” Crystal leaves my office, still laughing.

I gather my things and tell my Saturday assistant manager that I will be back to check on Evelyn.

As if sleeping with the owner of the hotel gave her a free pass to make me look bad.

The park I am meeting Solen and Sophie at isn’t a long walk. So, I leave my car at the hotel. As I am enjoying this bright March day here in Dallas, TX, I can’t help but enjoy the air. Soon, it will be too hot to walk outside. Summers in Texas are brutal. God may have blessed Texas, but blessed us with killer bugs, snakes and heat.

I make my way to the park and see my brother and daughter already talking to a couple of cute girls. I giggle to myself. I am about to make my way over to them when something catches my eye.

It’s what I assume is a father and son. The dad is tall with messy dark hair. He is broad and well defined. He as an authority about him that stops me in my tracks.

I smile as I see him helping his young son up on bike. He is gentle with the boy, not what I expected from a guy as big as him.

I hear the little boy say, “Yes, Daddy.” As the wind picks up behind me.

What happened next is hard to explain. The wind was blowing behind me but there was a rush in front of me. Two large strong arms wrapped around me, and two perfect lips touched mine as what I can only describe as fireworks erupted on my skin.

I melted into the kiss. I have never been held like this, kissed like this. Can I really be falling in love with someone I never met?
