I left Mara’s room with more doubt than I had before going in to see her. I was not at peace with her complaint about being sick. For someone who had been so energetic, ready to fight the whole world in the morning, it was quite difficult to believe she was ill by midday.

I knew how crafty and desperate Mara could get when she wanted something. Hence, I had Casper trail her to know her whereabouts. I was not shocked when Casper told me she had gone into the woods at night, despite reporting sick.

I held onto that piece of information, albeit I feigned ignorance when I went to her room to get the urine sample the next day.

She responded to me still acting sick, “How are you feeling today?” I asked, deliberately.

She held her head and gave me a sick face, “I feel sore and weak, all over my body. I haven’t left this room since yesterday,” she said in a very low tone.

I was irritated by her incessant lies.

She walked into the restroom and came out after some minutes with her urine
