Chapter fifty eight

Isabelle sat nervously at the dining table, twirling her fork in her hand as she watched her father finish his meal. The atmosphere was tense, and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest.

"So, Isabelle," her father said, breaking the silence. "How have things been with you and the pack?"

Isabelle's mind raced as she tried to come up with an answer. She knew she couldn't tell him about Dane's plan, but she also couldn't lie to her father. "It's been...fine," she said, trying to sound nonchalant.

Her father raised an eyebrow. "Just fine?"

Isabelle fidgeted in her seat. "Well, there have been some...difficulties. But I'm working on them."

Her father leaned back in his chair, studying her. "What kind of difficulties?"

Isabelle swallowed hard. She knew she had to be careful with her words. "Just...personal things. Nothing that concerns the pack."

Her father nodded slowly. "I see. Well, if there's anything you need to talk about, you know you can always come to me."
