DANIKA

       "I need your help"

I let out a sarcastic laughter and clench my fist. Is he even listening to himself right now?

"You need my help? Are you even listening to yourself?"  I say, glaring at him. He takes one step towards me and I move backwards, my eyes narrowed.

"Don't you dare come any closer. You haven't answered my question, Kang. What are you?"

He pinches the bridge of his nostrils and brings down his hood. With the moonlight reflecting on his ridiculously attractive features, I begin to feel even more uncomfortable.

"That's the thing, Danika. I don't even know what I am" he tells me and I frown.

"You can't be serious"

"I am" he breathes, not taking his eyes off me.

"I'm serious. I don't know what I am. I don't know what's been happening to me, but I know it's not good and I need you to help me figure out what's going on" he says to me with an earnest look on his face.

"Why me? You barely know me and I barely know you either. Why do you think that I'm going to help you?" I ask and he bites his lower lip as he runs his fingers through his locks.

"I don't know, Danika. But, there must be a reason why I keep coming to your house without having any knowledge of how I got here. I'm probably not going to remember having this conversation with you, by tomorrow. That's why I need you to help me figure this out" he says and I blink.

"Please, Danika. I won't hurt you, I promise"

I let out a sigh and rub my temples, tensed.

"Fine. Just give me sometime to think about it"

He nods and flips on his hood.

"I'll see you soon" he says and vanishes from sight, leaving me to gape at the spot where he'd been standing.

I rub my eyes and pinch my arm, trying to convince myself that I'm actually dreaming. But I realize that I'm not dreaming. Kang had just vanished into thin air.

Wow, how wonderful.

***

Morning soon arrives and I groggily get ready for school since I'd barely gotten any sleep after Kang had left my house because I'd been thinking about what he'd said, non-stop. It's frustrating, really. I can't seem to get him off my mind.

My mind keeps setting up theories. If Kang isn't really human, is there a chance that he must've really committed murder?

What if he decides to kill me because I know about the fact that he isn't entirely human?

"Watch where you're going" Kang says to me and I blink, only to realize that I'd bumped into him along the hallway. My cheeks turn a light shade of pink when I notice that my hands are resting on his very firm chest. "Are you going to get your hands off my chest or are you going to keep staring at me?" He demands and I instantly pull away from him, heat creeping up my neck. Why is he so good-looking? Ugh!

"Quit staring at me, Danika. You're giving me the creeps" he says to me and walks away. Riiight, he doesn't remember what happened yesterday. Groaning in frustration, I make my way towards the literature class. Shortly after the class had begun, a detective shows up with the principal.

"Lee Kang Dae. I'll like to see you in my office, right now" Principal Wade says and Lee freezes in his chair, confusion written all over his face.

"Me?" He asks, his voice sounding so feeble and shaky. It is obvious that he is terrified. He slowly rises to his feet, his hands trembling.

"What's going on?" He asks and the detective gives him a small smile.

"We just need to talk, that's it"

Kang turns to look at the whole class staring at him with judgemental look on their faces.

"I bet he's committed murder again" a girl sitting on my right mumbles and I stiffen. Did he really commit murder again? I watch as he walks towards the door, this time he doesn't spare anyone a glance. But, he looks so afraid. I have no idea why, but I suddenly feel really bad for him.

KANG

Sitting in the principal's office with a detective sitting directly opposite me is stifling on every ground. My heart is racing in my chest, my lungs already straining for air as memories of being sent to the mental health institute surfaces in my mind.

I can't go back there.

I really can't.

I'm having a panic attack, this can't be good.

"My name is detective Chad and I have a few questions to ask you" he begins and my blood runs cold.

"Mr Lee?" the detective says, his voice sounding like it's coming from far away. The edges of my vision begins to blur as the trembling of my hands worsen.

"Two nights ago, a body was found on the side of the road and we found your finger prints on it. Tell me, where were you two nights ago?"

Tears fill my eyes as I struggle to recall where I'd been two nights ago.

"Are you alright, Mr Lee?" the detective asks but I don't say a word as I begin to gasp for air, fear paralysing me.

"Hey, relax. Just breathe. It's alright" the detective says to me and I close my eyes, feeling like I'm suffocating. Soon, I'm taking a dive into oblivion.

***

When I awaken moments later, I find myself lying on a bed in the school infirmary with the detective sitting on a chair by the window.

"You're awake, I see" he states and I sigh, trying to push my exhausted body to a sitting position. Panic attacks always leave me drained and right now, my body just won't cooperate with me.

"It's okay, lie down" Detective Chad says to me and my body goes limp. I close my eyes and let out a sigh. "I'm sorry for freaking out like that. I just- I don't want to go back there" I say, hating how weak I sound.

"It's fine, I understand. But you really need to tell me what happened that night" he says and I swallow hard.

What do I tell him?

I don't remember what happened or where I was that night.

"Kang?"

"I-I-um- I was at my parent's house" I say and he sighs.

"You've got to give me a lot more than that, Kang. What did you use to attack the victim?"

"I-I don't remember. I don't know what happened"

"Are you telling the truth?"

"Yes, I really don't know what happened. But, I didn't kill anyone"

"Do you want to know why you're a suspect? First of all, your fingerprints was found on the body. Secondly, the victim is your cousin, Joel. We've visited Joel's parents and we were told that you two don't get along"

I blink, slowly processing what I've just heard.

Joel is dead?

I haven't seen that bastard in a long time. I don't despise him enough to murder him.

Detective Chad let's out a sigh and rises to his feet.

"Considering your previous crimes, you're the prime suspect here. I'll come around tomorrow and unfortunately, you will be questioned again. If things don't turn out well for you, you will be detained" he says and takes out a card from his wallet. "Here's my card. If you remember anything, don't hesitate to contact me"

With that, he leaves the infirmary. A painful lump lodged itself in my throat as I stare at the card.

I am so screwed.

***

I quietly make my way towards my locker with my head hanging low. I can hear the whispers and comments being made about me, but I keep moving, my hands tightened into fists.

"Hey, murderer! What's it gonna be? Life imprisonment this time? I bet you'll become even more crazy before you clock twenty five" one of the jocks says to me but I calmly ignore him. I don't have much strength left in me and I'll rather not worsen my situation. Someone suddenly grabs my hand and I turn to look at who it is. Staring at me with bright green eyes is Danika. "What do you want?" I sigh and she purses her lips for a moment.

"We need to talk" she says to me and I scowl.

"We don't need to talk. Now, let go of my hand" I say but she doesn't budge, her eyes fired up with determination.

"We need to talk and I'm not taking no for an answer" she tells me. Then she pulls me towards the storage room. She shuts the door once we get inside. "Now what?" I demand.

"I know where you went two nights ago and last night" she says to me and I scoff.

"Let me guess, your house"

I say, but she continues to stare at me with a very serious expression.

"That's right. You came to my house"

"I don't believe you"

"Two nights ago, you came to my house and when I asked you why you came, you told me you didn't remember how you got to my house in the first place. Then, last night you came to me again. But this time, you appeared out of thin air, like some mythical creature. Then you asked me to help you" she says and my blood runs cold.

She has to be lying.

That can't be true.

"You know that I'm telling the truth but you just don't remember what happened last night"

"Are you saying that I'm not human?" I ask and she sighs.

"That's what it means. When you showed up at my house last night, you asked me to help you figure out what you really are and why you keep showing up at my house at night and forgetting it in the morning" she says and I suddenly feel light-headed, my knees buckling underneath me.

"Hey! Easy" she says, steadying me with a firm grip on my arm.

"You should sit down, you look really pale" she tells me and I lower myself onto a large box inside the storage room.

"You have to know that something is wrong and we will have to figure it out"

I stiffen and look up from the ground.

"Wait, we?"

"That's right"

"I've agreed to help you. Maybe when we figure it out, you will stop pestering me" she says to me and I blink.

"Why are you helping me?"

"Because I want to? Now, come on let's get out of here"

She grabs my hand and pulls me to my feet before making her way out of the storage room with me behind her.

Just as we make it out, I nearly bump into a raven haired girl.

"Hey, Kang" she grins at me, revealing a pair of......fangs?

What the hell?
