KANG

The blonde girl begins to move closer to me with a frown on her face which makes me even more uncomfortable.

What am I doing here?

How did I end up here?

As the blonde girl steps out from the safety of her bedroom, I notice the steel bat in her grip.

"Kang? Why aren't you saying anything? Were you stalking me?" She demands and I flinch visibly.

Did I stalk her?

But why don't I remember doing that?

"Answer me or I'm going to call the cops right away!" She whisper-yells.

I blink when the sound of her pounding heart reaches my ear. I take a step backwards, unable to wrap my head around the reason why I'm able to hear her heartbeat so clearly.

"Are you deaf?" the blonde girl demands and I take another step backwards, my confusion soaring by the second.

"I-I don't know. I don't know how I got here" I tell her and as if the universe truly hates me, it begins to rain heavily.

"You expect me to believe you? Do you think I'm stupid?" She snaps and my eyes widen when I sense her pulse beating wildly. She's afraid of me and is only putting up a facade.

"I-I'm s-sorry. I'll leave. I didn't mean to come here. I'm really sorry" I say and she folds her arms across her chest, her eyes narrowed. "Where do you think you're going to? Don't you see that it's raining?" She asks and I lower my gaze. "I just thought you wanted me to leave-" I tell her and she lets out a sharp exhale with an annoyed look on her face. She swings the door of her bedroom open and steps aside.

"Come in, then"

My eyes widen and she pinches the bridge of her nose. "Do I have to repeat myself?" She demands and I instantly snap out of my daze. Quietly, I walk into her room and she switches on the light. "I have no idea what you were thinking. You're only wearing a plain white T-shirt and denim cutoffs despite the weather. You must be crazy" she tells me and moves towards her closet. Then she takes out a large grey hoodie. She tosses it at me and I grab it before she can even blink. I stare at the hoodie quietly, questions buzzing in my mind.

How the hell did I grab the hoodie so quickly?

Why on Earth is the blonde girl helping 'the murderer'?

Isn't she afraid that I might kill her?

"What?!" She snaps and I flinch again.

"Why do you keep flinching? What's wrong with you?"

"Sorry" I mumble and put on the hoodie, not that I'm actually feeling cold.

"You can stay on the couch, that is, until it stops raining" she says to me and I blink.

"Aren't you worried?" I ask and she raises a brow.

"About what?"

I let out a sigh and run my fingers through my hair.

"Why are you helping me despite everything that you've probably heard about me?" I say and she sighs.

"I don't know- I just- I don't want to believe the rumours. I want to know your own side of the story" she tells me and my heart sinks.

Is she for real?

No one has ever said to me.

"What's your name?" I ask.

"Danika" she responds with a small smile on her face.

"I'm really sorry for showing up at your house in the middle of the night. I'm really sorry" I say and her gaze softens.

"It's fine. I'm going to bed. Goodnight"

She lays down on her bed and draws her blanket to her chin before closing her eyes. I stare at her curiously.

She really is beautiful even without makeup. A small smile tugs at my lips as I watch her slowly fall asleep.

I lay down on the couch, curling up slightly. Minutes soon bound by but I keep staring at the ceiling quietly, unable to sleep. I don't feel tired or sleepy and that's weird because I usually fall asleep so easily. Either way, I let my eyes slip close, trying to reach for the slumber that seems to have evaded me.

I blink my eyes open and find myself lying in my bedroom in my stepfather's home. Frowning, I sit up and look around. A flash of memory invades my mind and my frown deepens. I went out last night but where did I go to?

What did I do and why do I not remember any of that?

"Kang?" Mum says from outside the door of my room. So, I rise to my feet and walk across the room to open the door. "Morning, mum" I say and she gives me a smile. Then, she kisses my cheek.

"Are you feeling alright? You look very pale and tired" she comments as she walks into my room and places the tray containing my breakfast on the night stand.

"I'm fine" I tell her and she frowns slightly. Then she reaches out and places her hand on my forehead.

"You're warmer than usual" she tells me and moves her hand to the curve of my neck, her eyes filled with concern.

"Honey, you have a fever"

I blink, slowly letting her words sink in.

"I do?"

"Yes. Now, go and freshen up, eat your breakfast and lay down on your bed, I'll get you some medicine"

"But I don't feel sick" I protest and she glares at me.

"Young Man, don't make me repeat myself" she says and walks out of my room. Confused, I walk into my bathroom and stare at my reflection in the mirror with my hands resting on the either side of the sink. Mum was right, I look pale and weak. But I don't feel sick, if anything I feel really energetic.

What the hell is going on with me?

Quickly, I go through my morning routine and after having breakfast, mum comes to my room and gives me some medicine. As soon as she leaves, I grab my backpack and open the window of my room. Without hesitation, I climb out of the window and begin to head to school. I know I might sound like I really want to go to school to study, but that's not it. If I stayed at home, I would most likely be bored to death. Hearing the rude comments from everyone else at school can be entertaining, so why not?

On my way to my locker, I nearly bump into the blonde girl who had smiled at me yesterday in the cafeteria.

"Is it a habit or do you just enjoy showing up at someone else's house in the middle of the night?" She asks with a playful smile on her face.  "What are you talking about?" I ask her and her smile falters.

"You came to my house last night but when I woke up this morning, you were gone" she tells me and I let out a snort, not believing her. "How could I have shown up at your place if I don't even know where your house is? Besides, we only just met yesterday. So, why on Earth would I do that?"

"You've got to be kidding me" she mutters under her breath.

"Look here.... what's your name?" I say and she frowns.

"I told you my name yesterday. It's Danika, remember?"

I let out a harsh chuckle and glare at her as hard as I can.

"Look, I don't know you. Stop trying to force yourself on me. I don't like people, so keep your distance from me, Danika"

Her eyes goes wide, hurt clouding them.

I turn away from her and try to think of the possibility that she was right. But it just doesn't make any sense. Did I really go to her house yesterday? Why her of all people? But again, she might be lying.

DANIKA

    The nerve of him!

How dare he accuse me of forcing myself on him? How could he have forgotten how he'd shown up at my house last night? Does he really suffer from memory loss or is he just lying to me? But still, why is he so rude?

I mean last night, he'd been different. What's going on with him?

"He sure is something else" Amy says from behind me and I flinch.

"When did you get here?" I ask and she shrugs with a smile on her face.  "Not long, but long enough to hear him accuse you of forcing yourself on him. He's a jerk"

"Come on, let's go to class"

"Wait, did you hear about the new girl? Her name's Diva. Weird, huh?" Amy says and I frown.

"You're not kidding, are you?"

"Do I look like I'm kidding?"

Suddenly, a raven haired girl waltzes past us wearing a black mini dress and white thigh highs.

"She's the new girl" Amy tells me and I roll my eyes.

During lunch, I go to the basketball court to eat my snacks and read a romance novel. I'm all alone until a certain brown haired guy decided to walk into the basketball court with a scowl on his face.

"What are you doing here?" I demand and he clenches his fist. "I should be asking you that"

"Why do you keep following me around?!" I ask and he narrows his eyes.

"I don't follow you around, besides you're not even pretty" he says and storms off. Angry tears fill my eyes and I clench my fist, anger simmering inside of me.

What is his problem?!

***

Hours fly by in a blur and soon I'm home and it's nightfall already. After doing my homework and getting ready for bed, I move towards the balcony and open the door, recalling how shocked I'd been to see Kang on my balcony. Now that I think of it, how on Earth did he climb up to my balcony in the first place? There's no tree or ladder that could've come in handy. So how did he do it? Still caught up in my web of thoughts, something dark lands a few metres away from me. Slowly, it takes a shape of a person and when that person rises from his crouched position, my jaw drops to the ground, my eyes wide with shock.

"Kang? H-how-"

His gaze meets mine and I take a step backwards, terrified. I know what I've just seen. He'd appeared out of thin air!

"W-what are you?" I ask, my voice shaky.

He blinks and takes a step closer to me.

"Don't! Don't move another step. Just- just stay where you are" I say and he halts and lowers his gaze to the ground, his head hanging low. He let's out a long exhale, his hands curled into fists.

"Danika" he breathes and I stiffen.

"I need your help"
