Chapter 21 - Harper

I end the call and put my cell phone in my jacket pocket, ready to go in search of my belongings to go to my impromptu date. However, as soon as I reach the back of the counter, Henry intercepts me.

“Who were you talking to, sister?” He asks.

“With Cinthia,” I say without thinking. I prefer to lie and avoid the long explanation that is worth telling the truth.

“Really? You looked very excited.” Henry raises one of his bushy eyebrows.

“Yes, Monster.” She called me to remind me that we are meeting to watch movies today at her house, and that it is my turn to bring the sodas.

“Movies at her house today? But what if your shift today was supposed to end at midnight?”

If I mean to fool Henry, I must be a little more insightful than he is. He knows me like the back of his hand, so lying to him is very difficult for me.
