Chapter 16

The moment I knocked on Jake’s door with force, a sense of urgency consumed me. I was met with Jake’s knitted eyebrow as he opened the door.

“Someone’s in a hurry,” he said, his tone casual.

Without waiting for an invitation, I stepped inside, and the door closed behind me. My eyes widened as I saw Conrad sitting on Jake’s sofa. Worries began gnawing at me.

“Hi,” I breathed, my gaze darting between Jake and Conrad. “Is something wrong?” I asked as I waited for Jake to take his seat across from Conrad, then I took the seat a meter away from Jake. Yeah, good acting. You’re here because something is wrong.

I was in between them but with a comfortable distance.

Jake sighed, unfolding his arms. “We were just talking.”

“Talking about what?” I asked, my heart racing with anxiety, so worried about what kind of punishments awaited Jake.

Conrad leaned back, a smirk playing on his lips. “It seems, Mr. Kingsley here had broken a rule.”

I bit my lip. I made him do it, didn’t I? I was to blame.
