[Seraphine's POV]

Perhaps my face looked so terrible in front of him this time. Pale, trembling with fear, and running out of words. Veronica didn't need any knife to break my heart; her gaze was sharp enough to flay me alive.

With every blink of her eyes, I felt my courage being thrown out the window.

"Cassian ... I don't know anything about this baby," I said. It took great courage for me to utter this sentence without feeling choked.

"And what is Cassian's child then?" She asked again. Now, her gaze pierced deeper into my heart like a dagger.

I nodded briefly, sweat pouring down my forehead. "This is Cassian's child."

"Are you sure? Could it be that the child is the Alpha's child in this glass case?"

"W-what?" I was extremely surprised to hear that. "Of course not, Your Majesty. I have never slept with anyone other than Cassian."

I could sense her disbelief from the expression on Queen Veronica's beautiful face. I didn't need to activate my powers to see the future; her demeanor al
