‘What do you want little girl?’

‘I want you. I want you, Hayden.’

‘You can’t have me. You’ll be safe if I’m out of your life.’

‘Don’t say that. I want you.”

“I’m sorry.’

‘Hayden! Hayden…'

I gasped and opened my eyes. My chest heaved up and down as I struggled to take a normal breath. My eyes were blurry because of the tears that were formed and I felt a tighter hold on my palm. I looked to my left to see Hayden's worried face. He was talking to me but I could not process what he was speaking.

“Hayden…” I mumbled.

“You are alive. Nothing happened to you.” He said.

My lips curved up with a smile while my tears rolled down my cheeks. He wiped my tears away, saying “Don’t cry. You are safe now.” I slowly nodded my head.

“I'll call the doctor.” When he tried to leave, I held his hand and stopped him.

“Don't leave me,” I mumbled while shaking my head frantically. “Please don’t leave me.”

Even though I was in the hospital bed, I could not stop thinking about the gunshots and the peop
