Mel's POV

Anxiety prickles at the back of my neck. I shouldn't be worrying, hunting with Jaxon last night proved that I could do this, but I can't shake the feeling.

Mel, are you sure about this? Nina asks, sounding as unsure as I feel.

Alpha Carter is a small threat. Plus, have the strongest werewolves alive by our side. I'm sure it's an in-and-out type of situation.

I take a deep breath and force myself to get out of the car. I jog behind the building and over to the spot where Ayla told me to meet her.

She steps out of the shadows of the trees with Dusk and Rubeus closely behind her. Her glowing eyes narrow at me. "I'm surprised you decided to come," she says, "I thought you would've told your dear mate by now and back out of our deal."

"He doesn't know anything," I assure her.

There's a hint of a smile on her lips. "Good. Seems I underestimated you, Beta Melanie."
