Chapter 61

Josephine blinked back at his words as she stared at him, not sure of what to say or how to react. When Lucas took a step closer to her, she took a step backwards and he heard the hitch in her breath.

“Are you scared of me now?” he asked, not taking his eyes off hers and there was a hint of sadness in it. “You know I can’t hurt you.”

Josephine stared into his green eyes and saw how serious he was. Some part of her wanted to tell him no, that she knows he cannot hurt her and she wanted to hold him, but instead, she found herself asking him, “You don’t want me to leave, why?” her voice was calm this time...but broken. “You pushed me away that night, remember? You didn’t stop me from leaving and so I thought you want me gone. But now you want me to stay? Why Lucas? Am I just a pushover to you?”
