AUSTIN.

THREE HOURS AGO.

I shook my head after dropping the call with Lexi. I was already upset that they were taking too long to come home. They were just three hours away from where I was, and I could have easily gone there to visit them, but I didn’t want to overstep the boundaries Lexi set.

But yes, maybe I did.

I drove there one night just to see where she was, but I just checked the neighborhood. There was nothing unusual, and if anything, the place looked calm and secure. I just drove by and went home. I shouldn’t be crucified for that, right? I just wanted to make sure the mother and son were safe.

But I did miss them. Not just David. I missed having Lexi around. It had been two weeks of me looking at the wall or the ceiling instead of her face. I realized I would rather stare at her scowling or poker face than the four corners of this apartment. This whole building felt like a ghost town without them.
