I raised my hands up in the air as I stretched further, following the lead of one of the delegates for the morning exercise, while my head was already formulating ways on how to spread out my team into the forest for the next activity.

Yes, call me competitive, but in a world dominated by men, having a female Gamma was almost unheard of. I knew this was one of the reasons Alpha Ledger was hesitating to finally name me as his chosen Gamma. Having a female in this position might lead others to see the pack’s security as weak.

But my father, Gideon, the current Gamma of the Midnight Pack, already knew this would be a challenge for me, so he trained me early on. After giving birth, doctors advised my mother that she was no longer capable of bearing pups, so my parents were fully aware that it would only be me who would carry the family flag.
