"Why the long face, love? Things will work out for you in the end," Alpha Matthew enquired.

"That was my uncle," I answered.

Alpha Matthew was quiet for a moment, then returned the fluid to the testing jar. "I've given it some thought. I won't kill him, but I'll make him regret his actions and suffer a slow and painful death. It's not ideal, Lauryn, but at least he'll be left with a life in ruins, ruining his deeds."

"I comprehend your disdain for him. But, if you go ahead and finish him off, you'll be no better than Alpha Hughes. You're not a bad person, Alpha Matthew."

"Sometimes, good people can turn bad after being hurt," he mumbled.

"I see your point. I was hoping you'd talk to Dad about it first," I said.

Alpha Matthew sighed. "He's already given his approval for the plan."

"Okay. I'll support you with whatever you decide."

Alpha Matthew cupped my face. "Listen, I promise it won't be as bad as you imagine."

"There's only one thing that I'm worried about," I said.
