The Light Beyond The Darkness

As Alpha Matthew approached me, four people trailed behind him. They were all laughing and playing music so loudly that it seemed to shake the entire house. I asked him, “Are you serious about letting them play music that loudly?”

He replied, “I told everyone to have fun. They’re all potential successor of the Ethereal Hunters.”

I couldn’t help but notice that he was acting differently than usual. His smile seemed forced, and his eyes had a glint of something I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

“What’s wrong, mate?” he asked, noticing my confusion.

“You’re not acting like yourself,” I said softly, setting down the magazine I had been reading.

Alpha Matthew’s smile grew wider, almost too wide. “I’m happy if everyone in the Ethereal Hunters is happy,” he said.

Then he gestured for the four people to stand in a line. “Beta Kathleen, Beta Christine, Delta Paulo, and Delta Ezra,” he introduced them. “They graduated from Petrovic Highschool last year, and each of them scored well and are org
