Had to choose

The two men stopped suddenly when they heard her voice. Asriel spring up the bed naked and picked a towel lying on the ground to cover himself.

" Zia let me explain, it's not what you think,"

" I can't believe I've been so stupid. You and my brother have been doing this behind my back,"

Asriel went to her and extended his arm to her which she hit away from her. Seeing the situation not good at all, Asriel hurriedly put on his trouser and shirt, Cai did the same.

Zia began to sob loudly, her legs almost giving way, but she couldn't show any weakness infront of them.

" Sister please forgive me, I didn't think it would end this way,"

" I trusted you Cai, you are my brother,"

" Please forgive me sister,"

Zia was slowly losing her mind, she had to get out of there. She went out of the room and picked up her clutch bag before hurrying out to the elevator. Asriel ran after her but the elevator door closed in his face, he had to take the other elevator down.

Cai joined him as they went down.

" I told you this was a bad idea, you wouldn't listen to me,"

" Not now Cai, you can't blame me when I didn't force you here. She had to find out sooner or later,"

" But not now, not like this, she is pregnant for god's sake,"

" You think I don't know that. I'm worried for my child. Would you keep quiet and let me think,"

Asriel was getting impatient inside the elevator. He didn't think that his double life would be discovered by het, at least not now.

The two shot out of the elevator and rushed after Zia who was running out of the building.

" Zia, please wait," Asriel called after her but she couldn't hear him. She was hailing down a taxi when from nowhere a car came at full speed and knocked her down, sending her lying flat on her stomach.

"Ziaaa....." Asriel called out her name, but he couldn't stop it, she had been knocked down before the car sped of.

Asriel hurried down to her and held her in his arms, she was already bleeding.

" Zia please, I'm really sorry, please forgive me dear. Please hold on for our child's sake."

Cai had called an ambulance which arrived in a few seconds. Asriel got into the ambulance with her, his mind totally in a mess.

" Is she going to survive this? And my child, is she alright?"

" We can't say that for sure, please sir calm down and let us do our job,"

The medics attached oxygen mask on her as they performed first aid on her. They were already at the hospital in just a few seconds and Zia was rushed to the emergency room.

Few minutes later a doctor got out of the emergency room. Asriel had been pacing around cursing himself loudly.

" How is my wife doctor?"

" The patient isn't looking too good. She is in a critical condition and we can't save them both. You have to choose one of them,"

" What! Doctor please, do everything to save them, I can't loose either of them,"

" You have to make a choice sir, there is no way to save them both,"

" Save my sister please, she could always have another baby," Cai said.

" What are you talking about Cai, this is my child we are talking about,"

The almighty billionaire was helpless for once in his life. This had humbled him, he had no idea what to do. He was at the mercy of the doctors.

" Remember we brought this on her, she has to survive,"

" Damn you Cai, stop this."

" Doctor please do everything possible to save my child and wife, I'm willing to do anything for them."

The doctor glanced back at the room through the mirror and saw one of the doctors shook his head. It seemed they had reached a decision. The doctor got back inside the room.

" We couldn't get the child's heart beat," the doctor explained.

" Let's get it out of her or she wouldn't make it too," the doctor said as he took the tools to perform emergency caesarian section on her.

The operation lasted for two hours till her condition was stabilized.

It was past midnight yet the two gentlemen stood there quietly, occasionally walking around, waiting for the doctor to update them.

Finally the door opened and the doctor went out followed by the other. Asriel and Cai met him by the door.

" We tried our best, but we couldn't save them both. I'm sorry that your daughter didn't make it. Your wife is stable as at now, we need more time to monitor her. You can see her after she is transferred from the room," the doctor said and went away, he was exhausted.

Asriel felt his whole world collapse, not his child, he couldn't lose him. Tears escaped his eyes as Cai held him to cry on his shoulders. Who knew that Asriel could shed a tear.

" I brought this on my child, what kind of a father am I ,"

" It was an accident Asriel, it wasn't your fault,"

Cai tried to console him, but his heart was pained too. He had caused his little sister pain which had led her to lose her child. He was a terrible brother. Why did he have to love his brother in law, he should have protected her those months ago when Asriel decided to propose to her even though they were already together.

Back then they were only hiding their identity, but with a child involved it was a dangerous game. He didn't know how he would face her sister, not after everything he had done to her.

Asriel suddenly stopped sobbing as a glint passed through his eyes. He made a short phone call before he entered the room where Zia lay on the bed helplessly with several tubes attached to her.

" Prepare my wife, I'm transferring her,"

" We can't allow that sir, the patient's condition is critical, she has to be stabilized,"

" I didn't ask for your opinion, now do as I ask before I squeeze the life out of you,"

Asriel's eyes had suddenly turned cold, a murderous aura enveloped him and the doctor couldn't argue anymore when death was knocking at his door.

" Let me hold my daughter," Asriel said when the doctor covered the corpse in a white sheet.

Asriel held his daughter for the first time and almost broke down. She was still too tiny, but he could already see her features. She was almost there, but life had sipped out of her. If Zia only listened to her, she wouldn't have been hit by a car. But Asriel knew that he couldn't blame her, it was him that had killed his own child.

Asriel carried his daughter as they wheeled Zia out of the hospital into the ambulance. She hadn't woken up yet.

Cai had taken care of the bills before getting into the ambulance. He shed fresh tears when he witnessed the life that had just been taken away from them. He couldn't ask more when Asriel was in much pain.

In the dead of the night, the ambulance roared away in the deserted streets till they arrived at GD hospital. Asriel got out of the car holding the corpse in his arms. Cai followed behind. He could only watch what was happening. They were met by a man in his early fifties.

" What happened Asriel?" Caleb asked.

Zia was wheeled out of the car which answered Caleb's question. He immediately had the patient into the hospital and examined her. He performed a few tests on her before attaching tubes on her.

" She might wake up in the next eighteen hours," Caleb said. He had never seen Asriel that much disoriented his entire life.

" Perform the procedure on her, I can't have her remember all these," Asriel said coldly.

" What! Are you out of your mind Asriel. You know that it's not safe, especially when we are still experimenting on it,"

" You must do it. I have to bury my child,"

Asriel had made up his mind and Caleb knew any better than refute his words. He patted Asriel's shoulder before he went out to get everything ready.

Asriel walked out to Cai who was seated leaning on the cold wall.

" Your sister won't remember any of this when she wakes up. I expect you not to say a single thing to her when this is done,"

" You are out of your mind Asriel, you can't do this to her, not my sister please. We are not even sure if the situation can be reversed,"

" It would be better if she had no memory of all these at all, forever, not unless you want to open up about your preference which I'm not ready to risk at all,"

Asriel knew the effects of opening up being gay. He would lose most of his companies since the country was mostly conservative, he could not afford such a risk. Zia had been his way of hiding his true self.

" Please think it over Asriel, I'm sure my sister won't tell anyone,"

" It seems you don't know your sister too well,"

Asriel knew the kind of woman Zia was, soft but ruthless. She couldn't let go of anything easily, not when you crossed her path. What had happened would bring hell on earth if she remembered everything. Asriel couldn't risk it. Even though it seemed ruthless to the woman he once cared about, he couldn't lose it all because of her.

" You can look after her, I have to bury my child,"

" I'm coming with you,"

A car was already waiting for them to take them to the airport. Asriel made calls to Drusilla in the night who made everything ready. Though her heart broke, she had to find time to find out what really happened.

In the quiet night at a dark room, a figure sat on a chair as he puffed off smoke into the air. He still couldn't believe that he had almost killed a pregnant woman, not when his wife was pregnant as well. He switched on his mobile after a long time and dozens of messages flooded in followed by a phone call, he had to answer it.

" Is it done?"

" Yes ma'am, but I think she made it alive,"

" What the fuck, such a simple job yet you couldn't do it well,"

" I'm sorry ma'am, she was pregnant for goodness sake,"

" You think I didn't know that before I let you do the job. Now make sure you disappear before you are caught, it's your life after all,"

The man cursed himself before he threw the phone and hit the wall hard, shattering into pieces. He took off his mask before he lept out of the room and disappeared into the thick night. No one, no matter how good he was could trace him, not when he had sealed his true self, appearing like a young man in his twenties, yet he was in his forties. He had been an expert at hit an run, this however made him think twice about his job.
