05 I can pretend not to see it

Bruno set down his coffee cup and looked at her, his smile light and seemingly insincere.

"What's up? Do you want coffee too?" Bruno's gaze slid over the coffee in front of him before meeting her eyes again.

Lizzie shook her head, "No!"

Bruno stood and moved to sit next to her, "What, what are you doing?" Lizzie tried to slide away from him as he neared, almost slipping off the chair, but Bruno caught her.

"I'm not going to hurt you, especially since you're my wife. Even if I did want to do something to you, it would be perfectly justified, wouldn't it?" Bruno said with a smile that sent chills down Lizzie's spine.

Lizzie gently pushed him away, "I, I want to go upstairs."

"Sure, let's go!" Bruno smiled and took her by the waist, leading her out of the dining room.

"I can walk myself." Lizzie looked up at him and spoke softly.

Bruno ignored her, instead turning to the steward and saying, "Steward, you can go too!" At his words, the steward retracted his stepping foot, "Yes, young master."

Bruno and Lizzie walked down the long corridor and finally stopped in front of the elevator. As soon as they entered, Bruno released her and Lizzie stepped back to avoid him. The quiet atmosphere in the elevator hung between them.

When the elevator stopped at the top floor, Lizzie glanced at Bruno before stepping out. Bruno followed a step behind, turned, and entered his study. Lizzie was about to speak when she saw that Bruno had already shut the door to the study.

Lizzie had no choice but to return to her bedroom.

Bruno sat in his study, his laptop just opened when his phone rang. He picked it up and read the message: Yan, when are you coming back? I'll pick you up.

Bruno smirked and dialed a number, "Miss me? I can't return just yet. Once I've taken care of the branch office affairs, I'll be back."

"Oh. Alright, it's late, aren't you going to rest?" came a soft voice from the other end of the phone.

Bruno smiled, a rare sight, "Honey, don't tire yourself out too much either. Wait for me to return."

After hanging up, Bruno sat at his desk, working until dawn broke. As he stepped out of his study, he bumped into Lizzie who was just leaving her bedroom. Her hair was slightly disheveled, her sleepy eyes looking at him in surprise, "Good morning."

"Why are you up so early today?" Despite looking tired, Bruno's voice was still cold.

"I got up to drink some water." Lizzie waved the glass in her hand.

Bruno nodded indifferently, "If you're bored here, let me know if you want to go out. I'll have someone take you."

Lizzie shook her head, "No need. I won't go out." Even if she did, she wouldn't let him have someone follow her. There was no freedom in that.

After a glance at Lizzie, Bruno entered the bedroom.

Is he going out again? Lizzie checked the time. It was only seven. After pouring herself a glass of water, she reentered the bedroom to find Bruno already asleep on the bed.

What's wrong with him? Lizzie frowned and approached the bed.

Bruno suddenly opened his eyes, "Wake me up at nine." He then rolled over and closed his eyes again.

After hesitating for a few seconds, Lizzie gave a small nod. She sat down on the sofa, her mind blank as she clutched the glass of water. After a while, she picked up a throw pillow from the sofa and half-lay down, clutching the pillow.

When Bruno opened his eyes again, he checked his wristwatch. It was almost nine. He then glanced at Lizzie who was dozing on the sofa, her slender, bare legs exposed and her pink silk nightgown bunching up at her thighs, almost revealing too much.

As Bruno got up, Lizzie startled awake, "What time is it?" Sitting up, she realized she was still in her nightgown and hastily pulled it down, clutching her pillow tighter.

"Don't worry! I didn't see anything I shouldn't have." With that, Bruno walked into the bathroom. Soon, the sound of running water could be heard. Lizzie quickly walked to the closet and put on a light jacket.

Bruno changed into a suit and sat on the sofa, picking up the phone, "Steward, I'm going out, come to my room."

In a little while, Steward appeared at the door, Bruno opened it, "Give me the car keys, I'm going to the company alone today."

"But, young master..." Steward was somewhat reluctant.

"Today, you accompany the young lady, wherever she wants to go, you take her." Bruno spoke, turning his head to look at Lizzie standing aside.

Steward then took the car keys out of his pocket and handed them to Bruno.

Bruno took the car keys, turned around and walked over to Lizzie, pulling her into his arms and kissed her forehead, "Wife, wait here for me." With that, he walked out of the room.

Lizzie came to her senses, Bruno's figure had disappeared from her sight.

Steward nodded slightly at her, "Young madam, if you need anything, just let me know. I'll be waiting outside." After speaking, he left the room and closed the door.

Lizzie glanced at the empty room, sat back on the sofa with a deflated look, only a few days had passed, she had no idea how long she would have to stay in the United States.

Lizzie stayed in the room all day, watching boring TV and flipping through magazines. Not until evening did Bruno appear, "Lizzie didn't go out?" Standing at the door, Bruno asked the steward who was still guarding the door.

"Yes. The young madam only went to the restaurant for lunch today, she didn't go out." Steward reported honestly.

"Okay, I got it, have dinner delivered to the room!" After giving the instructions, Bruno opened the door and walked into the room.

Lizzie was lying on the sofa, carefully looking at the sheet music in her hands, a faint smile on her face. Her slender fingers were lightly tapping on the edge of the sofa. She seemed in a good mood.

"You seem in a good mood!" Bruno said as he took off his suit jacket.

Lizzie sat up, patted her dress, and smoothed her long hair, "You, you're back."

Bruno nodded, reached out to pull at the tie around his neck, and walked into the bedroom.

"I've been greeting him with a smile, Why is his face still filled with indifference?" Lizzie mumbled as she sat back down on the sofa.

Not until Bruno came out of the bathroom, wearing a white robe, walking to the living room, "Do you have something to say to me?" This girl usually didn't like him, but today she was smiling at him.
