23: The Inevitable

Five weeks had passed since my mum's sudden visit. Altan had not shown any symptom of severe depression or illness. But, I was suspicious that he could be hiding it from me. Lorenzo and I was still having a hard time figuring out a way to break the curse. Altan was more affectionate towards me and while I really enjoyed it, there was a lingering feeling that wouldn't go away.

The feeling of time running out.

I was wide awake on my bed. The bed felt empty without Mikael in it. He had travelled to Canada for a business trip four days ago. He was supposed to return the day after today.

I could hear the ticking of the wall clock and it did nothing to ease my tension. Instead, it made it worse.
