29: Fighting the good fight

"Hey" I said, beaming at him. He blinked, a blank look in his eyes. My smile faltered as he pulled away from me, not taking his eyes off me.

"Are you okay?" I asked when he continued to stare at me for a while. After a few seconds, he finally spoke. "Who are you?"

My eyes went wide as I struggled to process what Mikael had just said. I didn't want to believe that he'd suddenly suffered amnesia.

I didn't want it to be true. So, I let out a nervous chuckle, tucking a lock of hair behind my ear. "That's not a nice way to start the day, Kael. Now's really not the time to crack jokes like that" I said and he frowned.

"How do you know me? Who am I to you? Do I look like I'm joking?" He demanded and I let out a strangled gasp. "You really don't... remember me?" I asked and his frown deepened.

"What's the last thing you remember, Kael?" I asked and he blinked.

"I remember firing my secretary at the office" he said and my heart sank.
