Chapter 2 The Two Familiar People

“I can’t accept the case?” Ivanka sat down on a couch. Suki nodded with a sigh. Ivanka raised one of her eyebrows. “Tell me why.”

“Because…”

Suki told Ivanka about the case. Ivanka placed one of her hands on her left thigh. Her fingers twitched. Her brown eyes lit up. “That’s interesting. Who are the parties involved?”

“It’s pointless even if you find them out…”

Ivanka looked up and saw Suki falling silent.

“Both parties are leading figures in the commercial arena. A lot of issues are involved in this case, hence both parties decided to turn against each other. Mr. Sadler requested your help, but his opponent is…” Suki heaved a sigh. “We’re losing an immense sum of commission,” said Suki heart-wrenchingly. “His opponent is your husband!”

For a moment, Ivanka could not quite breathe calmly.

Suki clutched her heart and said with difficulty, “It seems that this case is not meant for us. It’s torture to see such a large sum of money slip from our grasp.”

Meanwhile, Ivanka played with her phone and said nonchalantly, “This is an interesting case. Take it.”

“Huh?”

Determination shone in Ivanka’s eyes, and she said resolutely, “Since I’ve accepted this case, I will take it seriously.”

Suki felt speechless as she stared at Ivanka. “You’ve never lost any cases before. If you help Mr. Sadler win the case, your husband will lose tens of billions of dollars. Iris, are you sure you’re not joking on this matter?”

“No, I’m not joking.”

Suki had not recovered her senses. She asked in confusion, “W-Why would you help Mr. Sadler? You’re Mrs. Barkworth!”

Ivanka said dryly, “I just got divorced.”

“What?!”

Suki sprang up. She had not even taken a sip of the hot coffee. She found it hard to handle two sensational news in just one day!

“Iris, are you sure you got divorced…?”

Ivanka’s lips twitched. “My life is better off without him.”

Ivanka looked serious. Suki recovered her senses and felt relieved. “You’ve been finally enlightened! You’ve given up so much for that scum, yet he doesn’t appreciate you. After leaving him, you’ve finally freed yourself from the misery. Congratulations to you, Babe!”

Ivanka did not want to continue the topic. “Okay, call Mr. Sadler and get ready for work.”

Suki was puzzled. “You hate Mr. Barkworth. Is that why you’re taking this case?”

“It’s business as usual. I simply like this case.”

Ivanka had always enjoyed accepting challenging cases. Since she got divorced, she no longer had anything to do with Michael. Thus, she did not have to care about his feelings.

Suki looked solemn. She said unblinkingly, “In the past, you could still wear a mask to hide your identity. Now you can’t hide your true identity anymore. Once Mr. Sadler finds out your true identity, we can’t take this case…”

“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.”

Ivanka looked resolute. Suki nodded. “Alright, I’ll contact him now.”

After Suki and Mr. Sadler finished their conversation, Suki turned to Ivanka, who looked depressed. Suki held Ivanka’s hand and said, “Come, let’s have a meal. I’m hungry!

“Iris, if we’re having a hard time, we must keep ourselves occupied. Otherwise, we’ll collapse!”

Ivanka was touched. “I was thinking about something else. I’ve long prepared for today’s divorce. You don’t have to comfort me.”

Although Ivanka was speaking the truth, Suki did not believe in her. Suki grabbed Ivanka’s arm and went outside.

“There’s a restaurant with tasty dishes somewhere nearby. Let’s try it!”

Ivanka had no choice but to agree with her.

The duo had a hearty conversation as they went to the restaurant. However, the moment they were seated, they saw two familiar faces on their left side. Ivanka’s face darkened.
