Chapter thirty-nine

Aurora

I sat for almost an hour on the sofa, my mother’s notebook in my hands, not believing what I was seeing. Rebeca left the house with an ironic smile, satisfied with having won the battle.

Claudio came home from work, and I was still there, with a dazed and puzzled expression on my face.

— Where’s Rebecca? – It was the first thing he said, barely looking at me.

— I don’t care – I let the hate speak for me – and did I mention how much I hate that woman?

— Who needs to love her, it’s me – dropped the backpack on the sofa and watched the corridor behind Rebeca.

— And how can you love someone like him? – I asked, and he looked at me – but are you incapable of loving your own daughter?

— What’s going on with you, Aurora? – It’s obvious that he would evade the subject.

— She deleted my book – a tear ran down my face – the book I spent months to finish, and she deleted the only copy I had of it.

— Write another one,– he said, without any empathy for my feelings.
