Chapter 46

A light rain began to fall outside. Antony watched the small drops of water hitting the glass door of his room, unable to get Giovanna out of his mind. He stood up restlessly when he realized his thoughts. For several minutes, he stood by the window, staring at the weather outside. This was supposed to be their honeymoon, and he didn’t even know why he was giving it so much importance.

He left the room, irritated with himself. Before he knew it, he was standing in front of Giovanna’s door. He didn’t dare disturb her. Everything seemed silent inside, and the dim light suggested she had already fallen asleep.

While Giovanna rested peacefully, he couldn’t sleep because of the things she had said to him.

He went downstairs and straight to his office. He poured a glass of whiskey, sat in the chair, and drank the liquid. After a few glasses, Antony seemed calm now. He sat in the armchair and fell asleep.
