Is this a joke?

"What do you mean, Mom? She insulted me! She fucking insulted me, and you are restraining my guards from beating the daylight out of her!" Daren growled, his face red in anger, as he glowered at his mother, who had a lopsided smile on her face as she ignored him totally to concentrate on Anna, who wasn't staring back at her in fright.

Horenetta couldn't hold back her admiration for the young, pretty girl standing in front of her. After so many years of searching and searching, she seemed to have finally found the right one for her son.

For a year she was looking for the right wife for her son who had clocked 26 and became a nightmare to girls. The pain of his girlfriend breaking his heart and marrying his friend turned him into a monster who never saw ladies the same way again.

All girls are cheaters in his eyes, and the most he could do was have sex with them and dump them like refuse. He strongly detested them, and the last thing he had in mind was falling in love, not to mention marriage.

Horenetta had been disturbed all night as she watched her son transform from a lover boy to a coldhearted businessman. But now, as she gazed at the young girl in front of her, it was clear to her that she was the right one for her son.

"You are lucky today, but you won't be this lucky another time, poor girl!" Daren scowled at Anna, hissing loudly.

"You know, you also might not be lucky enough to get someone to save you from thieves another time. This woman here is your knight in shining armor." Horenetta taunted with a smug smile, and that made him hiss, irritated.

"You shouldn't have come here in the first place." He spoke before turning to the guards.

"Let's get out of this stinking place. Mom can stay with her new friend as long as she desires." He spoke to them and began to head to the door.

"I am not done yet, so no one is leaving with you. including your driver." She smirked, and his grunt echoed through the entire building. His eyes were already glinting with frustration. He couldn't believe his beloved mother was suddenly being so harsh on him because of this poor girl who lived in the slum.

He expected her to have more important things to do than come here and waste time. They should just pay off the girl and leave without making a big deal of what she did for him.

Anna was only standing with her head bowed as she wondered how possible all this could be. Daren's mother was giving her smiles Instead of being angry that she talked bluntly to her son.

She heard incoming footsteps and lifted her head, surprised to see Horenetta step up to her gracefully, her waist swaying from side to side in an admirable way.

"What is your name, beautiful girl. And who do you live with?" Horenetta asked, placing her left hand on her shoulder and caressing her cheek with the other hand.

"My name is Anna, and I live here with my stepmother, but she is out on a business trip now." Her response came fast as she tried to catch her breath. Everything seemed unreal. This was not what she expected from a billionaire. Why was the woman treating her so nicely? just the opposite of her son.

"Anna...." She called out with a beam, and Anna couldn't push back the blush that spread over her face.

"That name is as adorable as you are. Thank you for helping my son. I have an offer for you." She added and opened her hand bag. She brought out a business card and handed it to Anna, who received it reluctantly, squinting her eyes as she stared at the card confusedly.

"Okay, I will love it if you will accept my offer to get employed as a personal assistant to the CEO in one of our family's wine industries—the Noble Vine branch, to be precise. My personal number is on that card. Call it when you are set with your family, and I will make the arrangements for your apartment and everything." Horenetta relayed her message in a calm tone, ignoring the red face of his son, who was already going crazy at what she just said.

The same girl Daren wanted to stay away from and never meet again in his life after leaving here was about to be employed at the company branch his father was handing over to him, and worst of all, his mother was going to give her the job as his personal assistant.

Anna couldn't believe her ears, and even when she heard everything clearly, she still couldn't accept that it was all true. Her mouth was wide open, and both eyes popped as she stared at the woman in front of her.

What she just heard was like a hallucination. It was just so unbelievable and something she had never dreamed of in her entire life.

"Mom, what did you just say now? You must be joking, right?! That company is the one my father wants to give me. Why employing her as my.....oh God!!" Daren growled in a frustrated voice, breaking the silence that lingered in the air as he glared at his mother with clenched teeth and jaws.

"You can learn to deal with it." His mother shrugged at him before turning back to the dazzled Anna, who was still finding it hard to talk as she kept trying to process the whole miracle.

Anna couldn't hold back her tears of joy as a huge smile spread across her face. Her heart began to race, and she didn't know when, as she jumped and hugged Horenetta, more tears would stream down her cheeks.

"Thank you so much, ma'am! Thank you for helping my miserable life." She moaned in excitement. Just when she thought it was hopeless and foolish to save the arrogant boy, everything turned out to be a huge blessing.

Her dream of having a good paying job and being self-sufficient had just come true in a big way. She couldn't just imagine the huge money that would be entering her bank account after starting the job, including accommodations.

After so many years of suffering at the hands of her stepmother because she was paying the house rent of this old and small house, it was all coming to an end.

"I will be leaving now. I have something very important to attend. Looking forward to seeing you soon." Horenetta whispered to Anna with a bright smile, breaking the hug and winking at her.

As Horenetta stepped out of the house with a few of the guards, Darren moved over to Anna with a deep scowl, his hands dipping inside his pocket.

Just as he was about to say something, Anna overtook him.

"Thank you for being a blessing in my life." She squeaked so happily, and before he could see it coming, she ran into him with a tight hug, and that actually left him in shock as he gasped, wondering if it was real.

He can't recall the last time a girl approached him, let alone hugged him tightly.

He could feel her succulent boobs, which he hadn't cared to check on, pressing against his chest so sweetly that it sent tingles down his back.

Her arms were wrapped around his waist while she rested her head gently against his shoulder, allowing his tall figure to tower over her short height just as if they were lovers.

"I am sorry for saying I regretted saving you. I must be very stupid! Thank you for coming to my door and disturbing my sleep. Thank you for...."

"Shut up and get off my body!" He glowered and pushed her off him with all his might as anger swept through him in a rush, but the anger instantly vanished the moment he saw her lose balance from his push and fall hard on the table behind her, crashing it into pieces.

She howled in pain, and Darren hurriedly checked on her as if he were being pulled by an unseen force.

"Are you alright?" He questioned her softly, scanning her body with his eyes, which had a glimmer of care and warmth.

The guards saw it and found it hard to believe. They flashed their gazes at each other with questioning looks, doubting if it was the same Daren they knew.

Darren lowered over to Anna, scanning her body as she sprawled on the floor with the shards remains of the broken wooden table scattered around her.

He scrutinized every part of her carefully to check if she was bleeding anywhere, but didn't find one, which made him heave a sigh of relief unconsciously.

Something he couldn't understand why he did. Why the hell did he feel relieved that she wasn't hurt when he was supposed to pray that she went ahead and broke her skull for all she had done to him.
