Chapter Thirty-Nine: The truth at last
When Serenity woke a second time, the world had turned dark. If it hadn’t been for the tiniest bit of light seeping through the gaps in the blinds, she wouldn’t even have caught sight of the man with his back to her.
Staring at the back of Xander’s wide shoulders, she wondered what he was doing there. Apart from saving her life from his sociopath of a father, she didn’t think they were on speaking terms after the way he left things.
“What are you doing here?” She murmured.
Xander’s body tensed at the sound of her voice, he’d always loved the breathiness of it when she woke. Turning on his heel, he offered her small smile as he approached the bed, “You’re awake.” He stated.
