(a day after Rex’s fifth birthday: Wednesday morning, somewhere in Washington)

“Wasn’t it the best day ever!” Hannah groans tiredly beside her husband. They were still stuck lying in bed after last night’s birthday party for Rex. Both Hannah and Marcelo threw the biggest party Washington has ever seen, beating the record of their friends and other relatives. Hannah adores her son’s unique cuteness and sometimes forgets she wasn’t the only mother with the cutest child in the world.

“Of course, after that killer birthday party you made me pay for, I deserve a week's rest.” Marcelo grumbles and turns to hold Hannah closer.

She laughs mocking his misery. “You needed to, you know. Rex is your son and he deserves the best.”

“No, seriously. Those kids nearly put an end to my life, sometimes I do wonder how you put up with them.” Marcelo grumbles into her hair with his eyes still closed. Hannah laughs at her husband
