53. The enemy

Devin opened his eyes and looked around the room. He could feel his stomach churning. He hadn't had any food or water in days and he didn't know how long he would survive like this. They had not tortured him physically but they were starving him he didn't know what would be worse.

He had to figure a way out of here or he and Lucinda would both die. He looked around the room and noticed that Lucinda wasn't moving.

He scooted over and nudged her. She groaned at his touch. Wake up, Lucinda! Lucinda struggled to open her eyes. She was so weak from the silver chains wrapped around her ankles. “ I can't do this Devin the silver is killing me slowly. “I have an idea, “he said.

The guard came in to check to see if they were still alive. He noticed immediately that Lucinda wasn't moving so he bent over her to feel her pulse. In that moment Lucinda shifted and pounced on him before he had a chance to do the same and ripped out his throat.
